Dead & Company 2021 Tour Kickoff

Last night was a BIG night.  Dead & Company kicked off their 2021 Tour in Raleigh, NC…  While I wasn’t able to travel for this one, following along on Instagram really made me wish we made the trip.  These guys put on such a good show, and while John Meyer has made a GREAT impact, they keep to the heart and soul of the Grateful Dead ethos.

The setlist was absolutely amazing:

Touch of Grey into Shakedown as an opener???

I followed along on Instagram – and from a couch guy, I was very appreciative of all the images and videos that people posted.  While it didn’t replace the feeling of being there, it definitely got my juices flowing.  Here are a few images (thanks, Instagram tags):

Something else: I saw that Nugs.net is offering a streaming version of each show.  They charge $30 per…which ain’t cheap, but I’m seriously considering the buy for some upcoming shows.  It’s that good.

Who’s excited for Atlanta (or wherever)???

Going to my first Dead & Company show on the 28th in Hershey. Kids are going to Camp Grandparents and we’re staying over for the night. Can not wait.

We’re excited for the Atlanta show again this year. My family and I have seen D&Co in Atlanta each time they’ve come through on tour and they don’t disappoint. I also saw the original band perform 34 times when I was in college. This ensemble is a very different thing than the original group, but the vibe is still there and I love seeing Bobby do his thing. Cool images from Raleigh on the IG feed last night.

I just don’t know if I could handle the TSA feeling stress of going to show during covid. Jerry would be rolling in his grave over live nation.

Agree, I sold my tickets after they announced their new policies. Also, the fact they are not allowing refunds for people who can’t go due to their new policies shows that’s it’s all about the money now.

What is going on with Live Nation? I am sure what ever it is it is not good.

We had tickets for Billy Joel and got a refund the second time the show was postponed.

I am not super thrilled about the rules, but you think having the vaccine card handy will be TSA level stress?

I was digging through the Gram for content this morning just like you…my wife and I are going to the Tampa show. Couldn’t believe the luck that they chose here over Orlando but super excited…Hoping that the Delta surged has chilled out before October 7.

I am beyond excited for the Charlotte show. Was hoping to go to the Atlanta and Raleigh show as well but with them being on a weeknight I couldn’t swing it. I am beyond happy and glad that they’re requiring the Covid vaccine or a negative test as this is the way to protect fans. I can see some fans being upset if they only required the vaccine but they are allowing a negative Covid test if you’re not vaccinated. If someone who doesn’t want to get vaccinated still has a problem with getting a negative test then they’re being extremely selfish and putting others at risk basically saying “I don’t care if I have Covid and potentially infect a ton of people.” The other option is is they don’t have these requirements, an outbreak gets linked to a show (theirs or someone else’s) and they end up canceling the tour. And I do think Jerry would support it as the rest of the Dead currently do support it. The Dead have always cared about their fans. I listen to the Grateful Dead channel every morning and people have called in against this but the people that actually knew and worked with Jerry said he would support this.

Honestly really happy about the covid policy. I was at a concert at Lakewood a couple weeks ago, and while it was fun to be back enjoying live music with a crowd, a couldn’t shake the feeling that I’ve got a toddler and a newborn at home and I want them to be as healthy as possible. We still had fun, but I couldn’t fully dive in like I used to.

I feel great about the Dead show now, and looking forward to only focusing on dancing, drinking beer(s) and trying to locate my shoes once it’s over.

So I was at opening night and the energy was amazing. That Shakedown was nuts. I know a lot of people are bothered by the new requirements but they weren’t that bad. They had people all over the place verify either your vax card or test results as you walked up to the gate, It may have set me back a minute or two. The process was pretty smooth.
As for the show, it was off the hook. This is the 4th time I’ve caught one of their tour openers and they were in mid tour form opening night. Its going to be a fun tour for sure and I cant wait for Charlotte.

do yourself a favor, drop this dead & slow stuff and check out BILLY AND THE KIDS on nugs.net. those 2 redrocks shows from last month are SMOKING. I don’t get how Dead & Co play so slow when Kreutzamn is in both bands and its Kreutzman and Mickey in D&C.

    YA WELCOME

I agree…Billy and the Kids is outstanding. You’re absolutely right about B&Co playing down tempo for some reason. I think it is Mayer, but that’s just me.
