Early Fall Casual Style

I noticed the other night that it started getting dark a little later than it had a couple of weeks ago.  That means Fall is getting close.  Considering the serious heat we’ve had over the last few months, those cooler Fall temps will be welcomed around here.

Starting to think about sleeves and pants, right?  Here’s my take on a casual look as Fall starts to peek around the corner:

From top left:

1. 47 x Carhartt Braves Hat:  Well, maybe time to upgrade the Braves lid since they are ON FIRE.  I love leading the NL East, but worry about our pitching heading into the playoffs…regardless, how about a Carhartt-level Braves hat to bring in the Fall?
2. Holderness & Bourne Wingham Vest:  The soft shell, unlined vest from Holderness & Bourne.  A great option for chilly Fall mornings bouncing around town or getting in 18.
3. Vaurnet Legend Sunglasses: I owned a pair of Vaurnet sunglasses way back when, and hastily got rid of them without thinking.  They are so cool.  Why not re-up?
4. Orvis Duck Cloth Shirt:  Orvis will release these absolutely KILLER pieces – this 4 oz(!) super light duck cloth is perfect for early Fall.  It’s light as a feather, has a good look, and is 100% cotton.  It’ll wear like a linen shirt at tailgates or kid soccer games.
5. La Matera Corbina Belt:  You are fooling yourself if you don’t have a La Matera belt in your closet yet.  ‘Tis the season to go bullish on their woven belts.
6. LFG 5-Pocket Canvas Pants:  Just added a pair of these to the rotation, and couldn’t be happier.  These have a soft canvas look that is soft, a great cut – slim fit, but not tight, and a little stretch.  These will get worn quite a bit this Fall.
7. Merrell Alpine Sneakers:  A cool alternative to the current narrow sneaker market.  Merrell makes a good product, so much so that Orvis has picked them up.  The brown suede with orange details is very seasonally appropriate.
8. Hamilton Khaki Field Watch:  A good watch.  I agree with ACL on this one.

What did I miss?

This post is classic RCS. Reminds me of your old stuff and it’s well received. Giving me some “college gameday home coming” post vibes. Looking forward to your takes on fall. Cheers!

Fall is wonderful in the South where you are. But here in Colorado, it only means that an ever too short summer is gone and an ever too long winter is coming soon. First snow here is around Oct 31. But it is beautiful also. Always enjoy seeing the posts on RCS.

This post reminded me that I need to send my Barbour jacket out to be refinished.
Looking forward to putting on a well-worn champion sweatshirt or chore coat on fall Saturday mornings.
I’m rotating out my Fall 2020 Covid athleisure wear (read: more cotton, less tech) for “real” clothes. I’m late to the five pocket game, but have found winners with Onward Reserve- tailored but still room to move. Looking to invest in a solid pair of chukkas and/or camp mocs, following your advice with Oak Street, et al.
It’s not for everyone, but a good, midweight rugby shirt is great for layering.

Bought a Barbour Bedale from Onward about a month ago and can’t wait to wear it.

I have the Bedale as well and it has treated me well for over a decade. I find Barbour jackets to be like a good pair of loafers- you can polish/refinish regularly or wear the fading/creases like a badge of honor. I’ve chosen the latter, but it has taken away from jacket’s ability to repel water and wind, so have yours waxed every other year or so as others have mentioned if you want to maintain jacket’s effectiveness against the elements. I found the zip-in quilt vest to be a solid investment as well.

Don’t be afraid to wax your Barbour yourself. If you can polish shoes you can re-wax a Barbour

When I read this I thought of Dodge Ball. If you can dodge a wrench you can bridge a ball.

Second that. It’s not hard to rewax it yourself and I find myself only needing to do it every few years here in the Deep South. The trick is taking a blow dryer over it to even it out and make it blend in after applying the new wax.

Just sent mine to New England Reproofers a few weeks ago. Can’t wait to get it back. My Beaufort and Tom Beckbe waxed cotton hat are my standard rain gear fall through spring.

Waxing a Barbour is very easy
Buy a can of wax from Barbour and apply it to the jacket using a cloth
Dry with hair dryer to get a smooth finish
Got my Beaufort Barbour from a thrift shop for about $3 and waxed it took about two months to dry

2 months to dry? I use my heat gun on low and it shouldn’t take 2 months to dry unless you used to much.

Agreed I actually always wax my Barbour Jacket myself every other year. It’s easy!

Great post – these collages(?) are what have brought me to RCS before you had your own domain! Thanks for many years of style!

Ordered one of the Orvis shirts. They are on back order and likely to arrive as soon as weather in CLT doesn’t feel like the surface of the sun.

Any idea if this shirt is the standard Orvis fit?

    Tom Beckbe Knit vest

I also purchased some Brave Star Selvedge Cone Mills denim in their Slim Straight fit last winter I will be trying to wear a good bit as well. They need to get some good wear and tear on them.
