John Mayer X Hodinkee Casio G-Shock

The general watch market is like a science fiction novel right now.  Absolutely crazy.  I’m good with my high-end watches but am enjoying filling the gaps with some more casual options.  Hodinkee has done a good job with these offerings.  I pulled the trigger on the Swatch Sistem51 (with the California dial) and absolutely love it.

The John Mayer ‘Talking Watches’ video from 2013 put Hodinkee on the map.  It was a cool interview with someone untouchable talking about a denominator for a lot of guys – watches.  Mayer’s collection is outstanding – I like that he plays the Dead & Co tour wearing a quarter-million-dollar watch.  Cheeky.

Mayer has done a couple of G-shock collaborations with Hodinkee, and I couldn’t say no to this icing:

This is a GREAT casual watch, especially in the warmer months.  While I was skeptical of the off-white colorway, it works well.  It’s a futuristic skin on a classic digital watch.  Mrs. RCS has informed me that she plans on stealing this.  A lot.  Whatever.

Glad to have it in the rotation.

This watch is the absolute definition of everything wrong with this hobby. A cheap watch snatched up by flippers and listed for 3 – 4x the cost. I hope you bought it at the retail price.

I did. I caught it before they sold out. And I agree with you – the secondary market on these is nausiating. That could be said for Yeti, Filson, Scotty Camerons, etc…

Great watch! I wear the black one almost daily, and I look forward to breaking in the white one during the summer.

Check out CWC watches- some good history there and they will help continue to round out your collection as a sneaky nice daily driver.

CHEERS on the NWA! That being said – I am not trying to ruffle any feathers, I love the collabs Hodinkee does : except this one. I just see white Oakley GasCans on a wrist with this colorway. I am not a fan of all white watches. I want to scream MOLE like Austin Powers and point when I see them. My ostentatious cousin to this watch though is a CasiOak Black Rainbow by IFLW x The Dial Artist – and I know lots of people will not like the one I have. Cheers again on the NWA!
