Top of the Heap: Ashlyn from Miss Magnolia

For those that already know Ashlyn, you know how she has a way with words.  For those that don’t know her, go visit Miss Magnolia, or check out her ‘bootlegging’ on Back Down South.  She was nice enough to play along with the ‘Top of the Heap’ series – thank you, ma’am:

“I adore my Lucchese boots enough to wish they were socially acceptable Midtown office attire. I love my delicate Alabama-shaped necklace from a boutique on 18th Street in Homewood. But I’m sentimental family girl at the end of the day, and I adore my father’s beat-up, circa ’76 SAE fraternity jersey from his Auburn days more than anything.

I can be a bit of a Daddy’s girl, but I think it’s also special because I spent two years working for my own sorority’s headquarters–I kinda like that whole Greek thing. Once, riding down Montgomery roads in his pickup truck, I guess I realized there were SAE secrets and a handshake that he and my grandfather were privy to. “Does mama know them?” “No, Ash.” “Well why? Can’t you just tell me? I won’t tell anyone I promise.” “Haha no baby…”

That soft, old jersey’s runs in the washing machine have to be monitored, but it’s just my favorite. And yes, Rush Stallings is still very much a ‘true gentleman.'” – Ashlyn Stallings, 2012

I followed your link to Miss Magnolia and did some looking around. I liked a lot of what I saw and then found out that she was an ADPi, which is even better. My girlfriend is one too so I just passed the blog on to her and a bunch of her sisters

That lettered jersey looks amazing soft and comfortable. I wonder if any of my own Kappa Sigma stuff will ever be that soft or that old.

Mom was an ADPi and still has a few of her stitched letters. I’m an SAE and I hope to hold onto mine for years to come.
    Phi Alpha!
