I’m not big on pomp and circumstance, but it occurred to me the other day that the blog just turned 13. 13 years…it feels like a long time. It’s longer than almost every relationship I have (that aren’t blood relatives). Other than some close friends that remain so, Red Clay Soul is the longest-running consistencies in my life.
What great about running this business is that I enjoy it as much as I did when I first started back in 2009. It is a creative outlet for me to talk about all the things I enjoy, as well as a community hub for what has become the coolest group of people on the Internet. I’m serious – you are all so great, and inspire me daily. Over the years I have met so many of you, and it goes without saying that every experience is wonderful. Some of my closest friends are a result of the blog.
I work with some of the greatest brands on the planet, who also become friends. We see each other out and about, and text about Widespread Panic or preferred shotgun guages, and create a deep and meaningful relationship that goes WELL beyond promos and slicks.
This isn’t meant to be a sign off or anything like that, just an awareness for me, and a thank you to each of you that have stuck around for a while. Keep coming back. Support the brands that I partner with, and tell your friends about our little corner of the Internet.
At the very least, we have a good time.

Thanks for 13 great years, I’ve been reading almost since day 1. As a native Georgian moving all around the country for my career, reading your blog and insta always feels somewhat like “coming home”. Hope that isn’t too sentimental but it’s true. Keep up the great work, looking forward to 13 more
Thanks for everything JRS. We are all very grateful. Here’s to another 13 years.
Wonderful blog that I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate! Here’s to many more years of excellence!
Love the blog. Congrats on 13 years!
Congrats, man. You’ve outlasted a lot of blogs!
Indeed, and that is no small accomplishment! Salute!
Thanks for continuing to put out great content all these years. Started following along 10 or so years ago after grad school. RCS has been a great point of reference for myself and many others over the years for style and culture. Informative and relatable without being pretentious or aspirational. Still waiting on that first RCS clay shoot…
Grateful for 13, here’s to 13 more!
Though I am somewhat of a luddite, RCS has become one of the few blogs/IG pages I check often. I’ve discovered some great brands and vacation spots thanks to RCS.
I have especially enjoyed some of your guest columnists, who have shared funny and thoughtful stories of youthful experiences not unlike mine or many more of us lucky enough to have been raised in the South. Please keep those stories coming.
Have become an avid follower and reader over the past ~7 years. Always appreciate the content and posts — cheers to another 13 years.
Sign me up for the First Annual RCS Four Ball…
Congratulations on 13 years! I’ve been reading the blog from the beginning, always a great way to keep with the latest gear.
Keep it up. So many of my favorite items were found here.
Very enjoyable blog. Having small kids I cannot afford many of the items, and am far more Ivy/preppy than most of the clothing, but almost never see a post I do not enjoy. Photos of folded Levis are well done. Had never heard of Col. Littleton before this blog. Also happened on the 2020 Sea Island vacation post only weeks before spending several days there myself. Very helpful for getting acclimated quickly there as well as for great local barbecue at Southern Soul. Thanks for all the posts. Still suggest that ball caps not be called hats, though. Really a classy blog, which helps this Southern boy living in Colorado find a touch of home now and then. The occasional guest blogs are well done also. Thanks again.
Love the blog and appreciate you keeping the red clay alive in my soul. Also thanks for introducing me to Tacovas boots!
Congrats on 13 years and I look forward to the next 13.
Congrats on 13 years! Been reading daily since 2010 and have highly enjoyed. It really captures the essence of Southern culture and I have loved the brands I’ve discovered through this like Criquet, Ball and Buck, Over Under, Tecovas and Duck Head (well, rediscovered) just to name a few. And as a Deadhead I appreciate how much love they get on here along with other great bands like the Allman Brothers, WSP and MTB. Pour yourself some Blade & Bow and cheers to the blog and I look forward to another 13 years.
Congrats. That’s a lot of consistency.
Great stuff – to many more!
Appreciate everything you do JRS! I’ve been following closely since around 2010 and RCS updates have become one of my favorite parts of the week. It’s a great distraction from the work week malaise. Love following you and the family as well. As others have mentioned, you’ve outlasted all of your peers which is quite the accomplishment. I often think of how much time you must dedicate to this hobby project, and am grateful to benefit from your efforts.
How about that 4 night run at the Fox? What night was best? I went Wednesday and Saturday.
