Winter Weekend

Winter is so weird.  In any location below the Mason-Dixon line, the temperatures and conditions vary mightily.  In a week we’ll see highs of 70, and lows of 20, with rain, ice, and sunshine.  In every variation.  So, layers are key to comfort.  Especially on the weekend, and when chasing around two boys that are largely cooped up inside (misery).

I’m pretty adamant about not wearing pajamas around the house.  I like the process of getting up and getting ready in the morning.  It makes me feel more prepared and more put together.  Our life involves constant movement, so whether that’s heading to the Aquarium, a friend’s house for a (cold) cookout, a playground, grocery store/Home Depot runs, or building obnoxiously big lego contraptions, we’re always on the go.  Inside and out.

Comfort is important, but so is style.  Here is my typical weekend, anti-pajama get-up:

From top left:

1. Holderness & Bourne Johnston Polo Shirt: I wear long sleeve polos quite a bit this time of year.  A solid upgrade from a long sleeve t-shirt, and just as comfortable.  An adult version.
2. Peter Millar Lava-Wash Full-Zip Hoodie:  I know, it’s a hoodie.  But it is a good cut and a bit thinner than the old bulky jobs.  These Lava-Wash are cool because they fade pretty quickly to a nice patina.
3. Vintage Skiing Corduroy Hat:  We used to wear these back when I was in college, and I loved them.  They broke in really well and had a cool factor that was unmatched…even by the old Game bar hats.  Elevated frat.
4. O-Ring Belt:  There’s no excuse to slack on the waist flare.
5. B.Draddy Russ Crewneck:  I’m really big on B.Draddy sweatshirts and outerwear.  I love the fabrics and the fits.  This one is great as it features a kangaroo front pocket, which is extremely important when holding countless random items for (and from) the boys.
6. Anonymous ISM Cashmere / Wool Socks: If I’m going to wear socks, I prefer that they have a little cashmere…even with tennis shoes.  Why not?
7. Duck Head Field Canvas 5-Pockets:  Sure – I like joggers.  I have a review coming shortly of a few pairs that I think you’ll like, but for the most part, I wear the Duck Head Field Canvas 5-pockets.  The fit is perfect – just slim enough not to be baggy, and after a few washes, they are soft enough to feel like sweatpants.  And they are tough as nails.
8. Fisher & Baker Kensington Shell:  There aren’t many companies out there that understand rain shells better than Fisher & Baker.  Their Kensington Shell is an elevated rain jacket that fits really well, is extremely functional (pockets, etc.), and is effectively waterproof.
9. Diadora Camero Sneakers:  Cool rides.
10. Clarks Wallabees:  The classics.  Extremely comfortable, and nostalgic.  You’re never too old for Wallabees…

What did I miss?  What’s your weekend get up?

I love the look of the Diadora shoes, but I bought a pair several months ago and unfortunately they are not very comfortable.

I see you posted the link for the Wallabee 2s. How do these compare to the originals in your opinion?

Funny bc I just tried in version 2 (linked above) and the “originals” at the Clark’s store the other day. Neither are as comfortable as the ones I purchased in college in ’04, I think the crepe soles are different on both the newer models (much stiffer and plasticky). Version 2 has a more comfortable sole but I’m not a fan of the word “Clarks” printed on the heel. In the end, I purchased neither and will lament the downfall of Clarks and Duckhead.

Those OSBM/Anonymous-ism socks are tremendous. Fortunate to have found a few pairs under the tree this year.

Very interesting Diadora shoes for this former Bjorn Borg fan. And those socks look fabulous. Never understand the benefit of five pockets over chinos, though, either in style or comfort.

Weekend getup: Oxford cloth button down, traditional fit, with full-fit khakis, both unironed and often frayed, casual socks, blucher mocks. surcingle or ribbon belt. All under a gray sweatshirt or crew neck sweater.. Barn coat in previous habitat in the Virginian South, but a wool pea coat in current Colorado.
