With the Masters come and gone, Spring has officially kicked off here in the South. The pollen is still here, but on its way out. The temperatures are rising, but the humidity hasn’t made it yet. Our outfits are going to get a bit lighter, but still plenty of layers. And working from the bottom up, our shoe styles will get a little more sporty.
The rundown is pretty simple: great leather options that will transition from day to night. Sandals that are tough and cool, athletic options that can handle the morning dew or the porch, and of course, Res Ipsa loafers.
Let’s get to it:

From top left:
1. Alden 6243F Handsewn Unlined Snuff Suede Penny Loafers: The absolute MUST HAVE loafers. They go with everything. Sans socks preferred.
2. Rancourt Gilman Camp Mocs: The casual version of #1. These are the updated, cool Dad version of the boat shoes. Dress them up with good jeans and an OCBD or wear them with shorts and an untucked polo…can’t go wrong.
3. Res Ipsa Kilim Loafers: For those days you need something a little extra. Let these be the star of the show – go basic with pants and shirt.
4. Bedrock Cairn EVO Pro Min Sandals: I’m a couple months into mine and only wish I’d bought them earlier.
5. Oak Street Bootmakers Scotch Grain Lug Bit Loafers: Lug soles don’t get a lot of mentions here at RCS, but they should. They are a great, heavier duty look, and the dressed up scotch grain and the bits give these otherwise rugged loafers some icing.
6. Adidas Adilette Slides: We all have Rainbows…add something a little retro.
7. Rubirosa Joan Sneakers: I’m all in on the Rubirosa sneakers. They cost a little more, but they are so cool.
8. Nike ACG Gore-Tex Trail Shoes: I wear my 993s a lot, but I’ve really taken to having a running shoe with some Gore Tex – specifically for playing outside with the boys, or messing around the grass…much better to handles the morning dew and dirt. They clean up in a snap.
9. Sid Mashburn Stone Suede Chukka Boots: A dressier option vs. the Wallabees, and they look very smart.
What did I miss?
Those ACG Pegasus are not Gore-Tex equipped. I wish they were. I love a gore-Tex layer for the reasons you mentioned. And it would pair so well with the resurgence of ACG. Maybe in a future release?
Rubirosa comfortable enough to walk around Europe in this summer?
Drop the $500 Rubirosa sneakers and replace them with tan tassel loafers from Alden or Crockett & Jones, You’ll be ready for seersucker and they’ll last a lot longer than sneakers.
