Tom Beckbe, the quintessential American sporting apparel brand, has opened its flagship store in Birmingham. The brand, founded in 2015 by Birmingham residents Radcliff and Mary Menge, is best known for its hard-working waxed canvas outerwear. Radcliff and Mary, both former attorneys, run Tom Beckbe full-time and together have expanded the brand’s signature waxwear assortment with a full line of field gear, bags, fleece layering, shirting, and hats.
The 1,300 square foot space is located on the corner of Canterbury and Culver Roads in Mountain Brook Village and features an in-store workshop for engraving and custom hunting vest fittings. The store is well-appointed with custom millwork from acclaimed woodworkers Julian & Sons, including the “Loading Dock”, a bar tucked in the rear of the store with private whiskey lockers.
The store’s assortment includes Tom Beckbe’s full line of premium outerwear, fleece, shirting, bags, and accessories as well as exclusive collaborations with Wisconsin-based outdoor footwear brand Russell Moccasin Co. and South Carolina-based Jack Rudy Cocktail Co. The store also carries a curated assortment of limited edition and rare collectible sporting items, including art, books, and hand-carved waterfowl decoys. Additionally, a newly added rewaxing service will be available to customers. The service will be offered in-store only.
This fall the store will host a series of indoor and outdoor events with fellow makers and sporting brands. Event partners include Josh Raggio of Raggio Custom Calls (Cleveland, MS), Jack Rudy Cocktail Co. founder Brooks Reitz (Charleston, SC), and Westley Richards (Birmingham, England).
I can’t wait to get over and see it…for now, feast your eyes:
