There’s something about English shoes…
I recently found these two pairs: First is a pair of Church’s Custom Grade black cap toes, which I found at Goodwill for $22. The second is a pair of John Lobb Rio penny loafers, which I got on Ebay for $150. Both pairs are in fantastic shape. The uppers needed a little elbow grease, but that’s what to expect with good dress shoes. The soles of each were OK, but I decided to send them both up to Massachusetts for a Doctor’s Appointment with my man Bill at LaRossa Shoe.
To no surprise, he knocked it out of the park. Here are the results. First, the Church’s:

I think the something is old world craftsmanship that has been passed down for generations.
