Team:
Pardon my absence, but over the last few months our family fell victim to ‘overscheduling’. Sports, school stuff, travel (both with and without kids), work commitments, etc., ate a LOT more hours than we expected, and we’re both playing catch-up. We had a BLAST as a family, but we are all tired.
That may sound worse than it is, but I feel like the posts have slowed down, and I don’t like it. I have so many ideas in my head that I need to get them down, and I’m excited. I’ve put a lot of provisions and xx in place that will up the ante, so to speak. You’ll be seeing a lot more content in the coming months on both the blog and social media. Potentially some new outlets as well. You’ll see work from the same amazing contributors you’ve come to know and love, and there’s a summer merch plan in the works to BLOW YOUR MIND.
Anyway…thanks for hanging out.
Now, I made a bunch of resolutions at the beginning of the year, so let’s review through Q1 and part of Q2:
- Ensure Mrs. RCS feels loved and supported every single day: Over the last couple of years we’ve focused on date nights, increased babysitter rosters, AND increased babysitter budget, and it’s paying off. Our relationship has never been stronger, which is the foundation for our house.
STATUS: Maintaining. Happy with the progress. Looking forward to all the summer/warm weather activities.
- Single-digit handicap: I’m at a 12.4 right now, but I’m frustratingly inconsistent. On an average 9 holes, I’ll have 4 pars, 3 bogeys, a triple, and a snowman. If I could knock out two snowmen I’d meet get there. Selfishly this is about practicing and playing more. I’m excited.
STATUS: Significant progress. I’m down to an 11.2, and trending down. The lessons have paid off, also the focus on each shot vs. the overall score has resulted in great scores, and more enjoyable rounds.
- Take the boys on a weekend outdoor adventure: We did an overnight in ’25. Time to up the ante.
STATUS: N/A. This Fall.
- Increase my sleep and recovery average: The importance of sleep, and focusing on sleep.
STATUS: Minor progress, but progress nonetheless.
- Touch my toes: A very easy one. I either can or I can’t. This one is a forcing effort to focus on flexibility, which is arguably as important as any other physical activity.
STATUS: Good progress. I’m down to my pre-Holidays weight, and significantly increasing my flexibility as I play more golf and focus on that aspect of ‘health’. Still haven’t touched the toes yet. I’ll get there.
- Zero incremental impact on my wardrobe: The point here is to purge stuff I don’t wear/use and replace it with well-thought-out pieces that will get a ton of wear.
STATUS: N/A. This is a project I’ll tackle this Summer and Fall.
- Zero incremental weight: Maintain the 32″ waist, and don’t gain a pound. However, I want to get stronger and reallocate the weight (if that makes sense).
STATUS: No change. Good with the weight, but I want to get much stronger.
- Reevaluate and dial in investment and college savings plan: I’m close, but feel like I need to do some additional analysis and evaluations. I’ll get this dialed in during Q1 or Q2.
STATUS: N/A. We’re going to focus on this in the Summer as we have quite a few financial things changing (no more daycare, etc.).
- Read 10 (ten) books: Last year I read 0.5 books. I will do better this year.
STATUS: Poor. I’ve read half a book, so I’m even with 2024. I’m not sure if this is a valid goal.
- Utilize the backyard more (landscaping, fire pit, sports, relaxing, etc.): We’ve made incredible progress on our backyard over the past couple of years, and we have about one more before it is dialed in. Our Sea Island Forge pit is incredible, we use it often. The point of this is to apply the same usage to the rest of the space.
STATUS: Good. We’ve started making significant improvements to the back yard – things like a bike path, healthier lawn, adding a Pitch-Back and chipping mat – lots of options back there. We’ll see more improvement as the warmer months take hold.
Thanks to everyone for their support.
My Best,
JRS
Something with the reading that helps me is magazines. I know you had a goal of reading books, but I think magazines are still a good option here and there. I get TX Monthly and it has some pretty decent long form journalism. When I go to bed at night, if I have read one story, I definitely feel better about myself.
Subscribe to the Golfers Journal. It’s like getting a great book each quarter.
