Quick Fix: Cashmere Repair

Most of you are aware of my Goodwill prowess (if not, follow along on Instagram).  Additionally, I’ve been on a natural fiber kick for some time as well.  Whether it’s out in the woods, on the course, or out and about, I prefer natural fibers over tech…unless tech is absolutely necessary.

About a year ago, I came across this 100% cashmere sweater from Miller Brothers at Goodwill.  It needed some work: the piling was out of control.  But I liked the fit – it was just a touch loose, so I thought it would be a great layer when fishing or in a duck blind, so I pulled the trigger and forked over $7.  I got to work with my depiller, and started wearing it.

Remember that cashmere is wool, and don’t let the softness fool you: it’s pretty tough.  Wool is a fantastic layer, as it insulates but also breathes.  Getting wet is no big deal, as it dries quickly.  Cashmere care is easy: I put it in the dryer for about 10-15 minutes on low after a couple of wears, and it gets rid of any smells.  I dry-cleaned it after last season and put it in my storage bin.

Recently I was going through my bin, and saw that there was a hole to the left of the tag.

Given that this is a hunting sweater, I decided to repair it in the most lazze fair way possible.  Loud stitching and careless stitches.

Why not.

I’m extremely pleased with the results.  On to next season…
