Built to Last: Filson Tin Cloth Tote

I dropped the kids off this morning and came home to straighten up the house before heading into the office.  As you can imagine, our house is usually pretty shredded after a weekend with the boys, so taking 45 minutes to put the pieces back together pays big dividends throughout the week.

We spent some time at the playground this weekend, and I used my old Filson Tin Cloth Tote to haul the gear (water bottles, soccer ball, football, towel, snacks, etc).

I realized that this bag is now 13 years old.  Santa brought it to me back in 2011.  It is the first piece of Filson that I owned.

I love this bag more than the day I got it.  It’s the perfect size, and built extremely well.  The nylon liner is clutch, and easily cleanable.  The tin cloth is exactly what you’d expect – well-constructed and developing a very nice patina.  I haven’t done a rewax, but I typically wipe it down every 6-8 months.  I have a heat gun that I could use to remove some of the scratches, but I don’t think it’s worth it.  I like the look.

The shame is that Filson doesn’t offer it anymore.  And if they did, I have a feeling it would be a little more than the $110 paid for it back in ’11.

This is actually the tote

Regardless, here she is.  A good example of buying quality pieces that will hold up well over time:

That’s awesome. I have the black version from around the same time. Feels like I may have even got it on sale. Use mine all the time.
