Flannel Upgrade with Ledbury

I grew up with flannel shirts from LL Bean and Abercrombie.  Two different ends of the shirt spectrum (one doused in ‘Woods’ cologne), but it’s a fabric that I and quite a few of you have utilized and enjoyed over the years.  As I get older, I care more about fit and quality.  I look to have less, but better.

Today, flannel shirts are taking a different spot in the rotation.  I wear them quite a bit, and as we are settling in on the ‘new normal’, post-COVID world of men’s style (much more on this later), I like pairing them with everything from wool 5-pockets, under cashmere sweaters, well-cut chinos and boots, to under a vest on a trout stream, in the field chasing hunting dogs and untucked with jeans lounging on the couch with my much hotter better half.

A utility player, of sorts.  I also like that true flannel shirts don’t have any stretch.  They are 100% cotton or 80% cotton/20% wool.  All organic, and hold up over time.  Think about those flannels in your dad’s closet that are as old as you…  ‘Stretch flannel’ makes absolutely no sense to me.

Ledbury has it dialed in.  I don’t need to re-sing the praises of their shirts, but their pricing and programs are something to take advantage of.  Their shirts are customizable, which solves the fit thing for me.  Not only that, at ~$125-130/shirt, the pricing is extremely digestible.  Their buying more programs is the icing on the cake.  Buy three and save ~20%.  No brainer.

I took advantage, and got these three:

(L-R):

  1. Cedar Hartmann
  2. Juniper Woodley
  3. Red Jackman

Iron heart flannels are awesome. Definitely more casual but extremely good quality. Can be worn as a shirt or shirt jacket. They have western cut or work shirt cut. Definitely more work/casual.
