Friday Jam: A Tribe Called Quest “Check the Rhyme”, Live in ’93

We lost a GREAT one this week.  Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest was one of the most influential and talented artists of our time.  He passed away on Tuesday at the age of 46.

A Tribe Called Quest is cited as the Father of modern hip hop, and Phife Dawg was front and center with Q-Tip.  “The Low End Theory” and “Midnight Marauders” are two of the best albums of the 90’s, and still resonate today, even though the art of sampling has all but disappeared from today’s music. Enjoy this early live version of “Check the Rhyme” from Letterman in ’93:
