In Hand: Ball and Buck Active+ Shorts

Ball and Buck is one of my favorite brands.  I’ve known the team for years, and rely on their gear for the field.  It’s smart, functional, and has a traditional style that is an anti-performance (which I appreciate).  However, they have released a few performance pieces over the last year, and they are all fantastic…and don’t look like performance.  At all.

Their most recent release are their Active+ Shorts.  These are constructed with a 4-way stretch fabric that has a bit of a waterproofing element.  It doenst’ look performance, but it performs.  No belt loops – instead opting for side pull tabs.  The shorts are constructed with your typical pockets, but the backs zip for security when you are out and about.

From a fit perspective, these are built to be a little more snug than Baggies or Stand Ups.  They aren’t designed to carry a lot of bulk, although I guess you could size up and pull the side tabs to get a little more leg room.  They are very comfortable to wear alone when wet wading, or under waders (no bulk).

The 8″ inseam is actually fine.  The legs aren’t cut super wide, so they play well.  Overall I think these are a GREAT pair of shorts to have in the rotation.  They are the ‘on the river’, ‘at the lake’, or ‘chasing the boys’ shorts that can take a beating.

I have a pair and really like the idea but struggle with the fit. It just feels off. They are great for situation s mentioned though.

Like the concept. But I’m in the thicc thighs tribe and am weary of that cut.
