I love nostalgia. I often find myself daydreaming – thinking of memories and events that happened in the past. Way back when… With UGA heading to Knoxville this weekend, let’s celebrate the last time that Tennessee was relevant: 1998. They won the Natty that year, a year after Peyton graduated, and before the Clausens moved in. Fulmer was trudging along the sidelines and ran a great program. Then they disappeared.
These were the days! The style back then was pretty similar to what we sport today, especially for us dads. The Snap-T was a staple, Vasque boots, chinos, Polo oxfords…it brings me back. So Dawg fans, let’s celebrate the good times in Knoxville with some ’98 style:
From top left:
1. UGA hat from “The Game”: The best part of these hats was how disgusting they became after about 3-6 months of wear. And we’d still wear them. Gross.
2. White Polo Oxford: The ‘nice shirt’ in your wardrobe.
3. Patagonia Snap T: The one piece of clothing that was worn with almost every outfit. We all had a couple, and while they were built wide, they were full of love.
4. Duck Head Chinos: A lot of guys sported PRL chinos, but don’t forget about the good ‘ole Duck Heads. That big yellow tag hits.
5. Shotshell Belt: A must-have for any fraternity gentleman in the South. Still have mine.
6. Vasque Sundowner Boots: Because we all acted like we hiked in Colorado…
Go Dawgs!
Sundowners need red laces.
Nailed it.
Don’t forget croakies and a STX or Brine key chain lanyard hanging of pocket (What’s up my fellow D3 lax bros?!)
Dean Dollar plays at the house after the game.
The Brine key chain lanyard. Haven’t thought about that in decades. So true.
Exact same outfit in ‘88 at UGA as well. Duck Heads had the bigger tag over the back pocket though.
To paraphrase the late Hedberg: I used to wear that outfit. I still do, but I used to too.
LOL! Love all of these! I went to school in TX so the Vasque Boots were replaced by Justin Ropers! Almost every guy had them in what I would call a “chili” color! Cool Beans!
