The other day I saw a guy wearing a pair of Navy canvas ‘sneakers’ sockless, with a pair of khaki shorts, and an untucked white polo. It was such a simple look, and the navy shoes really gave it an almost whimsical feel. It wasn’t as casual as flip flops, and not as formal as loafers, but somewhere in the middle; leaning towards the ‘casual’ side. I used to have a pair of Adidas Gazelles in high school that I bummed around in, but believed I grew out of them. Maybe not…
So these might not be your style. That’s cool – wear what you feel comfortable in. Your outfit is your second skin, and it should reflect your personality. Me? Yeah – I might give one of these a try…
L-R:
Tretorn Nylite in Navy: Very cool – and they have a narrow toe for the non-clown look.
K-Swiss Venice Surf & Court by Billy Reid: These exploded on the blogosphere when they first came out, but I’ve never seen a Navy pair in the wild. A buddy of mine did pull the trigger on these, and they are nice.
Adidas Gazelle: While they aren’t canvas, they do bring back some good memories…
What do you think?
Those are all nice, particularly the Billy Reid K-Swiss. With shoes that dark it helps to have at least a little bit of a tan on your legs to minimize the contrast.
I wear my all navy supergas very regularly in the summer.
Big fans of the Tretorns… If you’re in ATL, you can get head over to Sid Mashburn and finish off the summer look.
Great suggestions!
I’ve got two pairs of the Billy Reid x K-Swiss sneaks (the white pair and the charcoal pair), as well as a pair of white Nylites… Honestly, they are both amazing so you really can’t go wrong. No experience with those Adidas though.
+1 for Tretorns
I’ve been wearing a pair of “navy” Vans Authentics. I kinda surprised myself by buying them really as they’re not something I would generally wear, but as I get a little older I find myself more willing to branch away from the “curriculum” if you will. So yea, Vans Authentics are awesome.
I picked up a pair of the navy Billy Reid K-Swiss’s this past January at the Billy Reid store in Charleston and couldn’t be happier with them. They are the perfect summer time casual shoe. I’m also expecting them only to get better with age.
