With Summer approaching (with ferocity), prep is key. As the dad of two active boys and the husband of an amazing (and very active) woman, I like to be on the ready. Weather it’s a trip to the pool, the lake, the park, or out on a date, there’s always something going on. And the elements are always under consideration. Here’s what I like for our Summer on the go:
From top left:
1. Magnolia League 50 SPF Sunscreen (Face): Given my history, I wear sunscreen on my face and hands every day. This 50 SPF from Magnolia League is the lightest I’ve found. Check.
2. Oakley Frogskins: The coolest sunglasses on the market. Don’t take yourself too seriously, but look serious.
3. J. Crew Slim Fit Linen Shirt: I love bengal striped shirts, and taking advantage of that look in linen is a quick way to upgrade a solid swimsuit look (un-ironed), or with a well-fitting pair of chinos for a date (ironed). And the price is just right for the look.
4. Turtlebox Speaker: Rock out. Big time. I get asked about these all the time, and the answer is yes – it’s worth it. The sound quality is absolutely fantastic.
5. Yakoka Mountain Man Nalgene Water Bottle: Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. And the Mountain Man is a really cool look.
6. Thermacell: Mosquitoes love me. And my kids. We have four of five of these around, and always bring one with us. Camo is preferred.
7. Poncho Performance Crew Sun Shirt: The sun shirt that doesn’t look like a sun shirt, but with all the SPF benefits.
8. Duck Head 5″ Gold School Shorts: Convertible shorts for your thighs. Careful – when you start wearing the shorter inseams, you don’t go back.
9. Jones Sports Utility Cooler: This cooler is designed for a golf cart basket, so I’d call it the PERFECT size for an afternoon. I have one and it’s been my go-to for the last couple of years. And much more price friendly than you’d expect.
10. Old Popsicle Molds: I shouldn’t have to explain this. My kids LOVE these.
11. Hudson Sutler Medium Waterproof Cape Tote: A tote that is perfect for us dudes. Bring it everywhere, and hose it out when needed. Very utilitarian.
12. Folding Wagon: You’ve got to haul all the gear somehow…we leave this in the back of the truck and use it liberally.
What did I miss? What’s your hot weather stuff?
Throw in an Ecuadoran “Panama” hat or a Tilley Airflo for added protection from the sun and heat.
Perfect addition!
JRS, how does the wagon do in the sand? I’ve been on the hunt for a beach wagon.
I’m pretty sure that unless you get one with the big balloon wheels, they all suck and you’re just dragging it rather than rolling it.
Rangland Beachwagon (Amazon) has pneumatic tires, Not sure if they are as big as the ones you see on the surf fishing carts though.
Thanks Jeff!
Thanks Trip – that’s my fear.
