We all know that feeling of ‘missing out’, or #FOMO. Whether it was procrastination or a flat-out miss, some things just get away. What hurts the most – especially in the #menswear ethos – is that the good stuff never goes away. Well, almost never. Some of the good stuff is discontinued, and it’s heartbreaking.
There are quite a few goodies out there that have come and gone. It’s a shame, but I missed them. Here are the five that are top of mind:
1. Billy Reid Quail Coat:
I’ve been a big Billy Reid fan for quite some time, and I completely spaced on getting this jacket. I really liked it when it came out, but never pulled the trigger. I saw a guy wearing one not too long ago, and it re-affirmed that I should have made my move – especially when East Dane had them at 50% off. I actually reached out to see if they had any in stock in a warehouse somewhere, and to little surprise, the answer was ‘no’.
2. Ball and Buck X New Balance 574s
I’m sad I didn’t get these, but they sold out faster than Van Halen tickets on their ‘1984’ World Tour. There are some available on Ebay for a rather large premium…even though I really love these shoes, I’m not there…yet.
3. Filson Fly Fishing Rod Carrier:
Full disclosure: I didn’t know these existed until I saw an Instagram post from David Coggins. Being the unruly Filson fan-boy that I am, I must have one. These are EXTREMELY rare, but every once in a while they show up on Ebay. Trust me, my eyes are peeled.
4. Salmon Patagonia Stand Up Shorts:
Only because I would be the envy of every TFM Internet kid, who is obviously the heir to an oil fortune, owner of a 4000 acres quail plantation, and got a bid to SAE at ‘Bama during when he was in 8th grade.
5. The Game hats with team logos:
Seriously rare, and with a little extra icing for the original bar hats from The Game. The mascot play on these was really cool, because the majority of them featured the old school logos. I had a navy one with the Auburn War Eagle logo in college. I loved that hat, and wore it to death. As expected, the only place to find these is on Ebay.
What did you miss? Let’s hear it…
Awhile back, Quoddy let you customize their famous canoe mocc with a proper leather sole. Only Rancourt and Alden make a design like that now, but the Alden’s have too flimsy of a sole and Rancourt’s option is limited to a bunch of suede options that don’t include snuff. Big regret not ordering the perfect pair when I had the chance.
I also regret not picking up a pair of the blue suede playboy chukkas from Sid Mashburn. I have the brown pair, but the blue are just a bit more special…
Recently found a pair of the salmon patagonia stand up shorts at a local thrift store for $2
What’s with the auburn hat? Assumed you were a UGA grad.
Not sure if they are discontinued or just temporarily gone but I should have bought every Smathers and Branson visor. Or at least the dancing bear and martini hoisting elephant designs.
