There’s a style trend in golf shirts that often goes underappreciated. I’m talking about the contrasting collar. I’m not talking about the old Ashworth polos from the early 90s (Couples. Period). Instead, I’m referring to a more elegant approach.
It’s common to see a tonal collar on most golf shirts, essentially repeating the solid or the pattern that makes up the body of the shirt. In searching for valid examples for this post, that is the MAJORITY of golf shirts that are out there. All good – no issues here. I’m wondering if there is a gap in the market.
I like the look, as it adds some variety. The B.Draddy (#3 below) is a GREAT example of a very well-done contrasting collar. A stark white shirt with a navy collar. Very cool. Very hip. Goes with everything. Maybe I’m the minority here, but I wish there was more variety.
Here are some I’d sport on the course:
From Top Left:
1 Peter Millar Bass Performance Polo: I like the color variety.
2. Greyson Moosonee Polo: Greyson makes some really weird stuff, but has a habit of knocking it out of the park on others. This the Mossonee is a home run.
3. B.Draddy Sport CB Polo: The standard by which contrasting collars should be judged.
4. RLX Slim Fit Polo: …as only Ralph Lauren can.
5. G/Fore Two-Tone Slim Fit Polo: G/Fore does good work. I really like the bright touches to a navy polo.
6. Greyson Appalachian Polo: Another solid option from Greyson. What’s happening to me?
7. Vintage Polo Ralph Lauren Pique Polo: Don’t sleep on the old Ralph Lauren options. I used to have an oxford blue pique polo with a white collar and I LOVED that shirt. It’s long gone, but I’d pay a pretty penny to get another.
8. Andover Shop Lisle Polo: A really cool, classic color in Lisle cotton.
You in?
RCS- I respect your thinking outside-the-box approach, but I suspect we will seeing most of these in the sale bin in a few months.
Good! More for me and RCS
I couldn’t make this look work. I’m well versed in my sartorial limitations
