I came across this shirt during a recent Goodwill trip:
Now, in any normal circumstance, I wouldn’t think twice about pulling the trigger, as this is a New England Shirt Company dress shirt in my size. It’s in perfect condition, hardly worn, and the $5 price tag completes this trifecta. I love these shirts, and have quite a few from NESC. Most I find are from men’s stores, and the “Made in New England” tag on the inside of the collar is the indicator that you have found a really good one…
The only thing about this particular shirt that gave me pause was the contrasting collar. You don’t see these around that often, and are generally associated with the 80’s and “excess”:
“Greed is good”
Regardless, I pulled the trigger. I like it, and this is how I’m going to wear it: Hand ironed (no starch). No tie. Since the collar isn’t fused, it will lay nicely, giving it a more casual vibe. Broken in Levis, a cool leather belt, and snuff suede loafers (sans socks). Top it off with a good Navy blue sport coat and I’ll be very good to go. That’s a look that works with the contrasting collar shirts.
What do you think? Are you down for this kind of neck party?
