Walk Up Song

My oldest is playing in a 7-8-year-old little league this Spring, and he was lucky to land on a really good team. By ‘really good,’ I mean the coaches have a ton of experience, they drafted really well, and the practices thus far have been extremely effective. These are guys with experience, and I’m excited for my guy to experience this level of baseball.

We recently got a request in our GameChanger app from another parent to send in a request for a 20-second clip of a song that our son would like to have as his walk-up song.  Now, I love walk-up songs and have thought about what my walk-up song would be (more on that later).  I also love this for my boy.

We talked about it last night and went through A LOT of options.  Here are some of the songs that didn’t make the cut, but were in strong contention:

  • ‘Gimme Three Steps’ by Lynyrd Skynyrd
  • ‘Bring ’em Out’ by T.I.
  • ‘TNT’ by AC/DC
  • ‘Walk this Way’ by Aerosmith

After much deliberation, his choice was clear:

…I have a feeling the opening guitar riff from ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ will have the (coach) pitcher shaking in his New Balances.

Now – let’s have some fun: what’s your choice for a walk-up song?

That’s awesome that the kids get walk-up songs. The opening guitar riff of the Stones “Can’t You Hear me Knockin’?” can’t be beat.

Always fun seeing what kids pick. My son’s first walk up song was “Harlem Shake” which was a crowd please. He also really enjoyed when he was a Pirate and finally got to pick “Black & Yellow”.

I was Catcher for one of his T-Ball Teams one season and a kid had “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” as his walk up song. It had me laughing every time he came up to bat.

Great choice! The song paired with a packed lip of big league chew – good luck fellas. My son’s only two but if he could pick it’d be C’mon N’ Ride It by Quad City DJ’s.

I always had the intro to Fortunate Son or Throw Some D’s ready to go for mine.

Not my personal choice but Jayson Werth’s walk up song as a National was DMB-Warehouse.
    Surprisingly good walk up song.

Last summer my kid picked “Halftime” by Ying Yang Twins (aka AJ Minter) which barely edged out “Big Poppa” by Biggie.

“Boom, Boom” by John Lee Hooker or “La Grange” by ZZ Top for the opening guitar riff.

I would have chosen “Start Me Up” by the Stones. My boys are older have “retired” from baseball. My oldest played through his sophomore season and he “Return of the Mack” as his walkup song. Missed his junior season recovering from knee surgery from football and then decided not to play this season as a senior. My younger son played through middle school and wore number 10 so he used “X” from the Black Panther sound track.

    Sure miss them playing baseball.
