I get a little anxious when Mrs. RCS asks what I want for Christmas. We’re at that age where we don’t exchange a ton of gifts — and honestly, neither of us really needs anything. The boys get most of the attention (as they should), and the rest of it goes toward experiences — time together, a good meal, maybe a weekend somewhere quiet.
But even with all that, it’s still fun to make a list. Not a greedy one, but a thoughtful one. Things that add a little joy, a touch of luxury, or just make the everyday a bit better.
So, while I may not need much under the tree these days, there are still a few things I’ve had my eye on — pieces that fit my world, my routines, and the kind of life we’ve built.
Here are a few of them:

From top left:
1. Yakoda Mystic Trout Corduroy Hat: I love corduroy hats in the late Fall and Winter. They provide some great warmth and harken back to the old-school ski resort cord hats from the 80s and 90s.
2. Benchmade Adira Knife: I love this as my go-to fishing/truck knife. The shape is perfect.
3. Zero Restriction Z2000 Jacket: I’ve struggled with rain gear forever, and it’s time. After getting SOAKED at Tree Farm earlier this year, I would have given quite a bit to have this in the bag and on the ready.
4. Zero Restriction Z2000 Pants: I’ve done a TON of research, and ZR rises to the top – such that tour pros sponsored by competing brands wear ZR when it rains. That’s enough for me…
5. Titleist Pro V1 Golf Balls: I hate buying golf balls. But gifted golf balls look GREAT sailing into the woods after a snap hook…
6. Clayton & Crume Buttoned Key Strap: You won’t find better leather than Clayton & Crume, and the design of their buttoned key strap is perfect. Now I just have to figure out what to emboss…initials are cool…but what’s another option??
7. Sentinel Basecamp Tote Bag: Sentinel doesn’t miss. Their designs and fabrics are elite, and this tote bag checks all of my boxes. Be sure to check out their new Basecamp line…
8. Razors: The only thing I hate buying more than golf balls is razors. This is the perfect stocking stuffer for me.
What’s on your list?
Whoa, whoa- I’ve been around here long enough to know that RCS is a Mach 3 guy… write-up to follow?!
Even in my 40s, it’s still nice to see a gift or two for me under the Christmas tree on Christmas morning.
For me it’s normally a bulk order of the niche brand of coffee I prefer and a new book I’ve been dropping hints about.
Thankfully my wife just sends me texts or emails throughout the year that I manage to save!
What niche coffee we going with these days?

We go with a nice option from the House of Maxwell.
I’m not a coffee snob, really, (I’ll drink any black coffee), but since I’m the only coffee drinker in my house, I can afford to be a little choosey when I’m at home. I drink coffee almost at any hour. I usually get a 5lb bulk ground bag from Dilworth Coffee in Charotte. During the week it’s usually just a quick hitter from my Keuring, but for my afternoon coffee and on weekends, I like to make my own pour-over.
Awesome, thanks.

I think we went Fusion because we had some coupon…so far so good.
What book might this be? Always looking for new recommendations.
Recent reads:
“The Gales of November” about the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald (reads very well).
“Train Dreams”; saw the Netflix movie recently and had to pick up this short story (~100 pages). Easy read, reminded me a bit of a modern Thoreau, not for everyone.
On my list:
“1929” written any Aaron Ross Sorkin who helped create the show “Billions”
Thanks! Just finished 1929. It was really good and it took a unique approach to telling the story. Just started “The Corrections” by Jonathan Franzen of holiday season read
I switched from Mach 3 to the Amazon Basic 5-blade razors and no regrets. Super cheap for refills.
The Clayton & Crume key fobs are solid. Just wish they allowed 4 letters to give more room for creativity.
