In Hand: The Tom Beckbe Piedmont Jacket

My friends at Tom Beckbe told me about a new 6 oz jacket a few months ago, and needless to say I’ve been eagerly anticipating the arrival.  Keep in mind, a lighter waxed jacket is truly a 3-season option here in the South.  The 8 oz Tensaws are fantastic, but when the temp gets anywhere north of 50 degrees, it’s almost too much.  The 6 oz is very dialed in.

The Piedmont Jacket is that jacket.  Beckbe’s newest release, it’s a thoughtful piece for those of us here in a moderate climate.  It has a classic fit and is a touch slimmer than the standard Tensaw.  The sleeves are lined for easy on-easy off, and feature the normal four+ pockets on the front: two hand warmer pockets on the chest, two big front bellow pockets with a snap closure, and two more hidden hand warmer pockets behind.  There is also that hidden Napoleon pocket that is accessible while the jacket is zipped up.

My favorite features are the gusseted underarms and the pleated back that allows for a full range of motion.  It makes a difference when swinging a shotgun or chasing kids.  The Piedmont is offered in four colors: Tobacco, Rye Brown, Navy, and Hardwood (pictured).  See ’em all here.

How does the fit of this jacket compare to a Barbour Beaufort?
