As November creeps along, we’re experiencing a fake Fall with highs in the 70s. While the flannels are still hanging, take advantage of rad plaids. Sport shirts with the look and feel of colder weather work great when the afternoon sun starts beating down.
Like most of my shirts, I’m not too fond of any stretch. “Stretch Flannel” makes absolutely zero sense to me, so still, with 100% cotton and natural fibers, you’ll be in much better shape. Shirts created with natural fibers last longer, fit better, and keep their shape.
Here is what I dig:
From Top Left:
1. Peter Millar Delta Cotton Sport Shirt: Peter Millar’s non-golf apparel has made huge strides over the years, and their sport shirt designs are as good as anyone’s on the market.
2. Orvis Country Twill Shirt: Don’t sleep on Orvis, either. They have refocused their men’s line on fit and quality, and the Country Twill shirts are a good example. They look good out of the dryer with a steam iron or from the dry cleaner.
3. Polo Ralph Lauren Plaid Oxford Popover Shirt: I have to include a popover.
4. Finamore 1925 Sport Shirt: Some of the nicest shirts on the market. These can be found on discount sites for great discounts…like this one.
5. Sid Mashburn Spread Collar Sport Shirt: No one does plaids like Sid…colors that you wouldn’t expect make sense together. Enjoy the chaos!
6. J. Crew Cotton/Cashmere Shirt: Add a little cashmere luxury to a sport shirt. It’ll keep it super soft and very comfortable. Sure to be ‘borrowed’ by your better half.
7. Onward Reserve Teton Spread Collar Shirt: A purple and green combo is absolutely killer. Good on Onward Reserve…their Fall line looks great.
8. Tom Beckbe Hampton Mid-Twill Shirt: I have this and wear it quite a bit. Looks great under a waxed jacket or a grey cashmere sweater.
9. Ledbury Blue Owenby Shirt: My Virginia friends are cranking out some incredible shirts, and offer a custom program: 3-fer with a HUGE discount. Their fabrics are exactly what you are looking for, and there are a TON of options. Great place to re-stock.
What did I miss?
While I’m not convinced Brooks Brothers is “back”, I have been impressed with their 100% cotton fall sport shirts.
LL Bean flannels are a staple, though the voluminous fit and mediocre quality limits when and where to wear them.
Great options to get into the season given the warm temps so far. Frankly it’s got me bummed out. I’ll be waiting it out for some good end-of-season deals on flannels if the trend continues
Beckbe missed on the cut/fit she’s off quite a bit or simply need to call it slim fit.
