If there’s one item that anchors a Southern man’s closet, it’s the polo shirt. Worn on the golf course, under a sport coat, or untucked at a cookout, the polo is our Swiss Army knife. But not all polos are created equal. Some fade after a season, some lose their shape, and some never quite feel right in the first place. Enter Gresham Reed.
I’ve been wearing their polos for a few weeks now, and let me tell you: they nailed it. The first thing you notice is the fit. Not boxy, not painted-on slim, but a true tailored cut that works tucked or untucked. The sleeves hit at the right spot (mid-bicep, where they should) and the collar actually stands up, which is a non-negotiable for me.
The fabric deserves its own paragraph. Soft, breathable cotton, with just enough stretch (6%) to move with you, it’s the kind of polo you could wear straight from a round of golf to dinner on the patio. It’s performance-minded without feeling like gym gear, which is where many brands fall short. Gresham Reed threads the needle: you look sharp, but you don’t feel like you’re wearing plastic.
Design-wise, they keep it clean. Solid colors, a few stripes, nothing loud or over the top. It’s understated at its best — you could wear one under a sport coat at church or with shorts at the beach, and it just works. That kind of versatility is what makes a polo worth investing in. Not to mention a LOT of clubs are taking notice. After only one season, you’ll find their gear at a lot of clubs from Georgia to Virginia, including Ocean Forest, The Fields, Princess Anne, Headwaters, Lake Toxaway, and Pine Needles (to name a few).
Price-wise, they sit in the premium category, but in my opinion, it’s money well spent. You’re getting durability, a proper fit, and a look that doesn’t try too hard. I’d rather have three Gresham Reed polos that I’ll wear for years than a stack of cheaper ones that won’t last past next summer.
For me, Gresham Reed polos check all the boxes. Great fabric, sharp fit, understated style. If you’re looking to upgrade the rotation, these deserve a spot front and center. Pair it with khakis, five-pockets, or your best broken-in golf shorts — you won’t miss.
We’ll get to the hoodie later, but it’s safe to say that this one is at the top of the stack.
Gresham Reed or H&B? Fit, color schemes, and materials sound exactly the same
Author
Both! GR is all cotton. H&B has tech (and good cotton as well).
RCS- I see a large in the picture which I think is your size in H&B as well? Sizing about the same?
Author
Yep – same in both brands.
These look good and I’m interested. However, I went to the website and there were only six colors and they were almost all a cool palette, which doesn’t work with my skin tone (this is a men’s fashion blog right?). I look forward to seeing some additional color options from this brand.
