Moving right along… remember those old brotherhood retreats or semi-formal Mountain Weekend trips? They always had a different feel than most fraternity events — a little more relaxed, a little more connected. Basically a big, isolated party in a mountain house, a bonfire burning into the night, and people everywhere.
These days, when I think about mountain houses, cabins, or weekends away, the vibe’s a lot different. It’s about being outside in the crisp air. Making a fire and actually sitting by it. Cooking. Taking a long walk. Letting things get quiet. A far cry from my undergrad days…
Got one of those guys in your house — the one who lives for the mountains and a weekend away? Here are a few ideas:

From top left:
1. Blade + Bow Bourbon: It’s not like you are driving anywhere…have a second. Or a third. It’ll warm your insides up too.
2. LL Bean Continental Rucksack: a cool hiker that won’t get lost.
3. Brisket Supply Gloves: These have become my go-to over the last couple of years. My ‘fire pit’ gloves. And that Georgia flag gives it some style…check out all the flag options they offer.
4. Tom Beckbe Piedmont Jacket: I love my Tensaw, but I’ve been reaching for my Piedmont a lot lately. It’s the lighter version with a fold-down collar, perfect for an outer layer here in the South.
5. Duck Camp Flannel Camp Shirt: Duck Camp knocked it out of the park with their flannels this year. 98% cotton and GREAT patterns. Just right.
6. Ball and Buck Heritage Pants: A good pair of canvas pants is hard to beat, and even harder to beat up. These by Ball and Buck are built to look like everyday chinos, but are constructed to handle warfare. Totally worth it.
7. Gransfors Bruk Wildlife Hatchet: If there’s a reason to have a hatchet…it’s time in the mountains.
8. Buck 110 Folding Knife: Allow all the knife forum people to slap me in the face, but the Buck 110 is the best value knife on the planet.
9. Lodge 10.25″ Cast Iron Skillet: First, you cook the bacon, then the eggs, then the potatoes. One skillet that does it all.
10. Duck Head Ridgeline Quilted Vest: Duck Head keeps moving up in the rankings. What used to be iconic pants and shorts has turned into a full line…don’t sleep on their quilted offerings…they are TOP shelf.
11. Russell Moccasin Joe’s PH Boots: The one…the only… GREAT everyday Russells that can do it all (hike, shoot, hunt, fish, and lounge).
12. Harris Tweed Wool/Fleece Blanket: For those long naps…in the easy chair…with (my) boots on…melted whiskey in my hand…
What did I miss?
