Quick Thoughts: Shakeup Saturday

Yesterday was nuts.  We were back and forth between the Flag Football field, Fall Festival at the school, and then to a party last night, but I’m pretty much caught up at this point.  Let’s level-set: the following ranked teams LOST:

#1 Georgia
#2 Notre Dame
#5 Indiana
#6 Alabama
#7 Texas
#13 Missouri
#16 Mississippi State

A couple of those losses were to ranked teams, and some weren’t.  Regardless, what a day.  On the macro, it’s very enjoyable to see all those ranked teams lose.  I enjoy chaos, and a day like Saturday takes almost all predictability out of the next few weeks.  Of course I hated seeing the Bulldogs lose, but you have to earn it.  I’m still processing how this will shake up the rankings, but for now, here are some thoughts:

Texas: I’m not sure what is going on in Austin.  All the air is out of that balloon.  Arch won’t get invited to NYC unless something miraculous happens.  The Longhorns don’t seem to have any direction or authority on the field.  Doubtful to make the playoffs.

Notre Dame: I always have fun poking my Notre Dame friends, but in all seriousness, Notre Dame should have won that game.  I watched the back half, and they didn’t look bad.  However, BYU seemed to have the perfect plan.  I doubt the Irish lose again (good games vs. Miami and SMU), so I expect to see them as a top-5 team in the Playoffs.

Indiana: I hated to see them lose.  It was a very typical noon Big 10 game…really sunny and somewhat of a yawner.  I doubt they go down too far in the rankings.  Ohio State is good…or are they?

Bama: I didn’t watch a single minute of this game, but I’m happy for the Vols.  Big win at home.  My guess is that the Tide were as hungover as the Bulldogs.  It’ll be interesting to see how they bounce back next week vs. A&M.

Georgia: I’m happy for Auburn.  They’ve been down for so many years, and what was once a powerhouse, they haven’t been able to find their footing.  For the Dogs, it’s a very tough loss – no one played well except the RBs, and it looked like they hadn’t fully recovered from the Bama hangover.  I don’t think UGA loses again (good games vs. Missouri, Florida, and Ole Miss, + the SEC Championship), and I expect they’ll be a top-3 team going into the playoffs.

State of Florida Football: What on Earth is going on in Florida?  Miami looks good, FSU almost beat ’em yesterday, and the Gators beat Texas in Austin.  A couple of weeks ago it didn’t look like any of those teams knew which end of the football to kick.  I love it.

What did you think of yesterday?  What did I miss?
