This is just a check-in post. We’re in mid-February, which is the lull of the year. For the most part, a lot of business is slow – especially after the holiday season. Retail is clearing its racks and getting ready for Spring, consumer habits have slowed tremendously, and there is a general ‘hibernation effect’ going on everywhere.
Think about it: we’re at minimum daylight hours. There’s nothing on TV. We’re all tired – both physically and mentally.
I know I am. This is a bit of a reset time for RCS. My site and portfolio follow a similar trajectory to retail, so we’re in a lull as well. We’ll start to see a lot of growth in March and be at full tilt during the week of the Masters (aka the ‘unofficial start of Spring’ in the South). I’m taking this time to get a bunch prepared, and I’m really excited about it.
I wanted to bring all of you up to speed and specifically let you know what you can do:
- RCS Spring Drop: I’ve gotten so many questions on this, and I’m really excited about what’s coming. We’re teaming up with H&B, Draddy, Hudson Sutler, Tour Classics, Classic Georgia, and more to bring you a VERY spring-friendly catalog of RCS-branded gear. For this drop, we will use the Dancing Fox design. Out of respect for Bobby Weir, it only felt right. This will be the last time we use this logo. From a timing perspective, I expect it to launch in the coming weeks. What can you do? Keep an eye on social. I’ll be posting teasers as products are finalized.
- Rebranding. I’m toying with the idea of rebranding Red Clay Soul. My intent is not to disrupt the content or the experience, but to enhance it. This should be a lot of logo, look, and feel work, with the outcome to be a more cohesive feel across the portfolio (blog, Substack, social, merchandise, etc.). What can you do? If anyone has any thoughts around this, let me know. I’d love to chat. I want to make sure I’m not missing anything.
- Golf and Travel: Mrs. RCS and I are working on our travel schedules for the year, both together, with the kids, and then my individual trips. You are going to see a lot more travel highlights on the site this year…and I’m excited. I’m visiting some amazing golf courses this year (Barnwell, Fields, etc.), and we’ve got some great family trips on the docket (Watercolor, Hotel Sylva), with more to come. What can you do? Enjoy it! This has been the most requested content segment, and we’re happy to oblige.
- RCS Substack: I’m seriously amazed at how well this has gone. I only wish I’d started writing earlier. It’s therapeutic for me to write more personal, reflective columns and to go deeper on subjects that I know are near and dear to you. From a segment perspective, we’re enabling the second phase of Substack, focusing on enhancements. The page will get a similar rebranding, as well as more features and a focus on the paid subscribers. I’m about to announce a series of LIVE experiences, where we’ll all get together and chat live. Deeper articles on gear, travel, fatherhood, and money. And my Mother-in-Law, who is one of the best bakers on the planet, might share some of her secret recipes (this is a really big deal). What can you do? I hate asking, but I’d really appreciate it if you subscribed (click here)! I’ve set the pricing such that I believe it is fair, and let’s be honest: the more the merrier!
- Podcast: Let’s just say that some conversations are happening. I won’t say much more, but…yeah…
How are y’all doing? Everyone OK? Did I miss anything above? Feel free to shoot me a DM or reply in the comments…
I really think there’s enough interest to have an official Red Clay Soul meet-up. Western NC, Charleston, etc. Skeet shooting, fishing, bourbon tasting, some surprise sponsors showing up- could be fun!
I get that it would take a lot of planning, but keep this in the back of your mind for the next couple of years.
The Red Clay Soul Invitational held at Pinehurst. It’d be more affordable and easier to plan than you think; I planned a corporate trip there 2 years ago for 100 attendees and 40 golfers. I’m full of ideas (and coffee) this morning…..
