Christmas Break

I enjoyed the recent Instagram AMA on goals.  It’s confirmation that 2024 is coming to a close, and 2025 is about to get going.  With that said, Christmas is in a couple of days, and a good majority of us have the next couple of weeks off.  It got me thinking about the balance between time off work (and recharging) vs. productivity (I can’t sit and do nothing…).  We do what we can to make the most of our time off, so we feel like we have a big sense of accomplishment when the break is over.

We’re about done with all the Christmas shopping.  There are a couple more boxes to check, but effectively we are done.  The family/Christmas schedule is solidified, and the boys are taken care of.  I’m happy to report that we will NOT be having turkey (more on this later).

Heading into this week, I’m looking at a few things:

  • Get Christmas DONE.  We’ll take care of that today/early tomorrow.
  • Mrs. RCS went above and beyond and got babysitters scheduled A LOT over the next two weeks.  Lots of dates with that dime.
  • Purge the hunting/fishing room in the basement and purge my closet.
    • RCS Flea is coming on December 26th.  You need to get ready.  It’s going to be epic.
  • Rearrange some rugs/nightstands/art/lamps/etc.
  • Get the 2025 travel schedule solidified/done (Vegas/Dead, St. Barth, Spring Break, 4th/Beach, etc.)
  • Clean out the garage.
  • Get our trucks detailed.
  • Eat clean.
  • Work out/stretch every day.
  • Clean out and clean my golf bag.  Clean my golf grips.
  • Tailor – got some pants to get fixed.
  • If the weather is good: fly fish and golf.  Twice each.

I’m sure there is more.  For me: writing all this down makes it real…holds me accountable.

What’s on your list?

    Ah, Christmas!
Now that the kids are out of the house (both married, with kids of their own) Christmas is different in a lot of ways for us. We still host the family, but there is less persistent chaos.

My wife and I run a tight ship already, so the Holiday breaks between Thanksgiving and the New Year is a time for personal reflection on habits new and old, and family.

For the last several years we take the quick trip to the Gulf Coast beginning the 26th and returning on the 2nd or 3rd. Same place every time. It is pretty fantastic.

The last half of 2023 and the first half of 2024 were not great. Last New Years Eve I walked alone along a hidden shore line and there among the pines and palms I made a deal with myself. That deal paid off pretty well the last half of this year. And so, at 1245hrs on this New Years Eve I plan to visit that same spot again to dwell a moment in gratitude for God’s many blessings.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Good stuff. 2024 was a tough year for a lot of reasons so I’m ready for 2025. Over the break I’m planning on getting everything finally cleaned up and finished from the damage we had from Hurricane Helene. Personally for 2025 I’m planning on cutting back on the number of clothes I buy. I have so many clothing items I love wearing but they don’t get a lot of rotation so I’m wanting to cut back for these reasons and to be a little bit friendlier for the environment. The items I am trying to focus my closet in on are the items that will last: OCBDs, khakis/five pockets, classic sweaters, blazers, polos, etc. Really the trad/Ivy essentials. I’m wanting to put more of my disposable income towards experiences instead like Braves games, mountain/beach trips and fishing/hunting trips. Here’s to 2025!
