Dove Love

Dove season opens in Georgia on September 2nd, and needless to say, I am really excited.  It’ll be nice to get out and see some dear friends.  We’ve celebrated the dove opener the same way…we all meet, have some BBQ, and head out to the field, where we hope they are flying like it’s Argentina.  Gunpowder is burned, sh!t is talked, and a good time is had by all.

In terms of hunting, there isn’t too much that goes into a dove shoot.  Generally carried out to your field by a tractor or truck, you pick your spot near a fence, hay, or some other structure.  Then you wait.  Then you shoot.  It’s also the first time any of us have shot a gun at something in quite a while, so there’s usually nice little flex…showing off all that new gear you’ve accumulated over the fishing months.  I don’t have any problem with that…however, you’d better limit out or be ready for some ribbing.

Here’s how I do it:

From top left:

1. Headwaters Outfitters Hat:  What a good opportunity to put a nice sweat ring on that new hat.
2. Randolph Aviator II Sunglasses:  Eye protection can be interpreted to mean ‘really great sunglasses’.  Take advantage.
3. Turtlebox Gen 2 Speaker:  Don’t forget, football season will be in full swing, so download your app and listen to the game while you are shooting at birds.
4. Colonel Littleton Buffalo Leather Cinch Belt:  A cool belt for a hot day.  More than just holding up #8, make a statement.
5. Duck Camp Midland Short Sleeve Lightweight Shirt:  Blend in when leaning on those bales, and stay cool while doing it.
6. Marshwear Clothing Escape Pants:  I’ve worn shorts to exactly one dove shoot, and it was miserable.  The Escape pants from Marshwear are super thin and breathable (designed for standing on a skiff).  These are my go-to.
7. Yeti 36 oz. Rambler Bottle:  You are going to want a bunch of water to replace the copious amounts of sweat.
8. Tom Beckbe Shell Case:  Go deep.  Lotta shots.
9. Russell Moccasin South 40 Bird Shooter Boots:  A dove shoot would be a great time to break in these new pheasant boots.
10. Fully Loaded Yeti Bucket:  Doubles as a seat, ammo carrier, dove holder, etc.
11. Mission Mercantile Shotgun Case in Vintage Camo:  Protect the merchandise in style.

What did I miss?

Love my Duck Camp light weight hunting shirt, but I think I might try my bamboo hoodie from Duck Camp opening day for the extra sun protection.. Midland or wetland pattern?
