Being a serious Goodwill shopper, I’ve learned a few tricks. One is to shop heavy in December and January when donations pick up from those who need a tax write-off. The quality picks up. Quite a bit.
Mrs. RCS recently made a quick stop at a Goodwill here in Atlanta. We have a habit of texting each other pictures of items we find that we think the other might like or for confirmation that something is worth buying. This particular trip was extremely fruitful, but there was one piece that really stood out.
This knit Mews coat is something that I’d never buy at retail, but a piece that I’d drool over because of its uniqueness and style. When Mrs. RCS sent me the picture I looked up the brand, and saw that it was a very expensive piece at retail (~$1000). It was $7 at Goodwill, and I gave her the thumbs up to buy. While it’s not out of the ordinary to find good deals on luxury items at Goodwill, it is out of the ordinary to find a piece this unique.
She got home and I tried it on – it fits like a glove. No pulls. I absolutely love it. The Navy and white knit is so cool. Very Res Ipsa. Very granola. I have no idea how I’m going to style it. It could be over a t-shirt and shorts like The Dude at the grocery store. Or it could be over a white dress shirt and jeans at dinner. Or it could be over a light sweater and chinos in the mountains. I don’t know, but I’m excited to try…
While this isn’t something I’d ever buy for $1000 retail, it is something that I’m extremely excited to own. A $7 risk that seems worth it.
