Even though the core of Filson has seemed to get lost in all the company’s new direction(s), there are some nice advantages to the consumer. This is a GREAT example. The iconic Zip Tote (eh-hem, which used to sell for $150) was just released in a really cool ‘Natural’ color. And I love it. I have the tan, #HJS has the navy, and I’m getting our yet-to-be-born son the otter green. These bags are so great – they are the perfect size, and are essentially indestructible.
What do you think? Are you a fan of the Natural?
I love the look but what are you doing with these totes? Like maybe my wife would use one at the pool…but to paraphrase the great Wayne Campbell, “i do not own A thing that I would carry in a tote much less many things that would necessitate multiple totes.”
And i have a 3.5yo and a 1.5yo – my wife’s purse has always been more than adequate to lug their gear.
Terrific you go in this direction.. noted these i the sea flagship n immediately wondered…why did they shift from their core colors (ie sepia… vs TAN)… the bag itself IS a pretty functional “box” … i have a couple that i took to cobbler to shorten the handle but i feel these will end up sale rack pretty soon. Reality—> the offwhite is pretty to look at initially, but with normal use will become entirely more… grimy.. than patina’d in realn of filson stuff. I see this on Sierra Trading Post in next few months. Additionally, their Workshop items are terrific (but really pricey..i get the “man hours” cost – too bad they cant snap out of their “private equity group is hammering on them for margin” phase and posdibly adopt some of the workshop creativity and mass produce. Look at “recent arrivals”… how many of us are dropping $300 on Moss fabric products?
Great stuff as usual .. love following your feed.
I loved the look of this—still wishing I hadn’t slept on the navy totes with english tan leather they did about 10 years back. Sadly, I feel like I would get this one filthy and grubby within about a month, and I’m not sure the patina would be handsome.
Also, dear Toteless in TX, what DON’T you carry in a tote? I have the filson non-zip tote in navy, and it’s perfect for quick trips like going to a coffee shop with a bit of work, going to the gym with a change of clothes, going to the store for a couple things, etc. Yes, you could do all this with a backpack or messenger, but I think its easier to find stuff in the tote and it somehow requires less mental commitment to use…ya just throw stuff in it. I understand that the man-tote is a “look,” and where my extended family is from in Ft. Worth I don’t think I’d pull it off. Thankfully my branch of the tribe moved out to Oregon…
Full disclosure: I bought one of these…for my wife…as a mother’s day/going to Rosemary Beach next week/it’s your birthday soon but we bought a new house so here’s a pretty cheap thing/present.
Now – what don’t i carry? Everything. And that’s the point. I use a Filson work bag…for work. Stores are kind enough to provide bags for purchases. I’m not familiar with a “gym” but i know there must be something in those buildings that surround the pool at the club. And when visiting said pool my wife lugs the kids’ accouterments in her over-sized Goyard (which is basically a tote). So i know why she would want one I just don’t know why I would want one. I’m not tottering over to a bodega for flowers and wine – I’m parking 20ft from the door at Central Market and throwing 10 bags of groceries in my Yukon bc TX.
Also I am very anti-backpack unless you are in school. I won’t even comment on use of a messenger bag by a person who doesn’t ride a bicycle for a living.
Jealous you have reason to visit FW on the reg. Great town.
