Being the thrifter that I am, I don’t limit myself to Goodwills and Ebay. Estate Sales (both online and in-person), EBTH, and other online auction sites can yield some pretty serious treasures. Mrs. RCS sent me an online estate sale of someone getting rid of an entire wardrobe – some really nice high-end stuff. The sizing was close to me (maybe a little on the smaller side). Included were about six pairs of Gucci bit loafers.
They were very non-descript about the sizing, but upon inquiry, they said “I think a size 9?”. I studied the pictures as much as I could and decided to take a risk. Luckily, I got both pairs for an incredible price. When they arrived to me, I tried them on – they were tight, but tight like a glove. They didn’t offer a lot of room.
I was hopeful that they could be stretched, so I immediately called my man Bill at LaRossa Shoe. I told him I’d send him the shoes, and in addition to restoration, they both needed to be stretched. Up to Massachusetts they went. He completely rebuilt the shoes, including new soles and heels.
I always say that he’s a magician, and I’m blown away every time he does work for me. These loafers have been restored to their glory – from a 5 out of 10 to a solid 8 out of 10. They both have a TON of life left.
