Highlights: Tom Beckbe Spring

Our friends from over in ‘Bama have extended WAY beyond their waxed jacket roots.  Over the past few years we’ve seen Tom Beckbe bags and luggage, hunting gear, and now a full line of apparel that is fit for the Beckbe ‘ethos’.  I got my hands on a few of their button up shirts, as well as a pair of their (anticipated) Ruffner Canvas Shorts.

First up: the shirts.

First the Monroe Poplin.  It’s a great, 100% lighter cotton dress shirt that is perfect for Spring/Summer.  The fit is great and the styling is a little more appropriate for a dress or church.  Everything from under a sport coat to tucked with shorts and loafers.  I nice departure from what is currently on the market.

Last, I got a couple of their Tidewater Shirts, which are some of the coolest on the market.  Not just figuratively, but literally.  SUPER lightweight, tailored fit, and really easy wash and wear.  These can be dressed up with shorts or chinos and loafers, or dressed down, untucked with Stand Ups and Rainbows.  I love ’em:

Lastly, the Ruffner Canvas shorts.  After an obvious gap in the market, Beckbe introduced their version of canvas shorts.  98% canvas with 2% stretch, a 7″ inseam, and workable front pockets, these are the type of shorts that are made to take a beating.  The back pockets give them a more ‘rough and tumble’ look, so I expect to put these to good use on the weekends.

I sized up in these, going with a 34 (I wear a 33 in Duck Head/Millar) so I can dry them.  That’ll soften the canvas and pull up the seams a bit.  So far so good…

See anything else in their Spring line that you like?

Glad to see someone still making 100% cotton shirts and those shorts are legit!

Like the look and idea of the shorts, but what makes them worth $110?

Made in USA is why. They’d be $70 if made overseas.
