Look: Fall Golf

Fall golf is my favorite golf.  With the days getting shorter and the temperatures all over the place, dressing is a bit of a challenge.  In Atlanta, it’ll be 45 on the first tee, 65 on the 10th, and 75 on the 18th fairway.  The good news is that the humidity has all but left, so there is no excuse to wear tech.  Cotton is king, followed shortly by wool and cashmere – all perfect fabrics for the course this time of year.

Here are the pieces I lean towards as we get into October and November golf:

From top left:

1. Holderness & Bourne Burton Long-Sleeve Polo:  Don’t sleep on long-sleeve polos.  Cotton with some stretch is not only a sharp look, but functional on the course.
2. Garrett Leight Kinney Sunglasses:  I love this look with a nice pair of sunglasses.  GL is as good as it gets…I’m currently collecting as many pairs as I can, and these Kinneys are on the way.
3. White Tour Visor:  There’s always room for a tour visor, and this one from my buddies at Good Walk is perfect.
4. Holderness & Bourne King Vest:  Probably my favorite on-course vest.  The King provides just enough warmth and is outfitted with two zippers that allow for a great fit at the top and the bottom.
5. Clayton & Crume Kentucky Belt:  I love these tack belts, and Clayton & Crume make the best.  Initials or last names are good, but feel free to get something fun…  HBTFD, your club’s initials, whatever.  Have fun.
6. w.kleinberg Buffed Italian Alligator Belt:  The other is a darker exotic, and these buffed gator belts from w.kleinberg are as cool as it gets.  The treatment immediately adds 10 years of patina…
7. Faherty Coastline Chinos:  Cotton with a touch of stretch.  Just the right weight for this time of year.  And the olive is such a cool shade.
8. Faherty Crewneck Sweatshirt:  Maybe somewhat inspired by Finau or Scheffler, I love the crew-neck sweatshirt look on the course. I’ve got plenty of quarter zips, but right now I’m all in on simple crew necks.
9. Greyson Koko Cashmere/wool Hoodie:  If you are going to wear a hoodie, do cashmere.
10. Peter Millar Cotton 5-pockets:  5-pocket are great on the course, and these Millars are just right – not too tight, cotton with a touch of stretch, and available in all the right colors.  Get some.
11. Footjoy Packard LX:  Keith Mitchell-esque.  These look good year-round.
12. Asher X Golf Pride Golf Glove:  Get a darker glove for the colder seasons.  The brown leather has that cool, casual, old-school feel.
13. Malbon X New Balance Heritage Navy Golf Shoes:  Very comfortable for those Fall walks.  And the navy is very seasonally appropriate.

Good list. I still struggle with the all cotton pants and stick with the PM EB66 when pants are required. I am, however, all in on the cotton polos, both HB and BDraddy.

I have floated with the idea of a tack belt. Even living in the south, I feel its just a bit much? I wear Smathers & Branson belts for flare and exotics, but I feel like this with a blazer would still get looks from people who might not have a sense of style – which is 95% of the world.

I think it’s a pretty subtle choice, and with a blazer or a jacket on, the name plate likely would rarely be visible.

I’m also very in on crewnecks. Both for the golf course and off.
