Project Time: Dead $7 Investment

By no means am I an innovative fashionista, but I do enjoy a good project now and then.  I’ve been searching for an obnoxious vintage Snap-T for quite some time – I really like the old Patagonia solid gold with the royal placket/pocket.  I’ve found a couple, but either the sizing is off (a size Medium with short sleeves), or the price is way too high.

On a recent thrifting trip, I came across this purple Peter Millar fleece that I absolutely fell in love with:

I’m usually a Medium in Peter Millar, but this is a bit of a slimmer Large, so it works.  I like the quarter-zip action, the sleeves are a GREAT length, and it’s in fantastic shape.  And at $4.99, it was a hard YES.

It’s got some logo on the chest – I think it’s a run-down muni south of the airport, but it doesn’t matter…I had an idea.

I have a few of these Dancing Bear patches that I’ve collected over the years…My thought is that I’ll work with Nick at Apres Golf and make some fleece headcovers, but I need to collect more for it to be worth our while.  The patches cost about $2 each when I buy in bulk.  I had to cover up that chest logo, so I decided to go with a purple bear for that tonal look.  I got out my needle and thread and got to work.

All in all, I’m happy with the results.  I’m not looking for this to replace any cashmere sweaters, but instead to be a grab-and-go sweatshirt that is annoying (purple), and gets some side-eye while wearing with bit loafers (DEAD).

While it isn’t 100% perfect, for a total investment of $7 I’m very happy.

Looks great and under $10? Could be a side business! I’ve done something similar but used fabric glue, which doesn’t have the staying power of stitching.

Seconded. I look forward to seeing your tent on Shakedown.

Not to be that guy, but that’s actually the Capital City Club logo… Looks better with the Dancing Bear.
