H. Stockton held their Tailgate Party last weekend – which was a great time. Southern Proper was there displaying their latest collection (which looks great), The Varsity was serving their famous dogs and onion rings, and Coach Vince Dooley was there signing his book ‘Vince Dooley’s Garden – The Horticultural Journey of a Football Coach’. Side note – if you don’t know about Coach Dooley’s garden in Athens – check this out.
The book can be purchased here
Atlanta artist Steve Penley was there as well. He did artwork for Coach Dooley’s book, so it made sense to have him there. It was my first experience seeing his work, and I was blown away. His paintings are very colorful, somewhat abstract – but you know exactly what you are seeing. Some of his paintings have a very ‘Southern’ feel:
This one is brand new – it’s about 5′ tall. Perfect.
Red Truck
Coke Bottle
His paintings of historical icons are second to none:
Abe
Teddy
Reagan
