RCS – Sid Mashburn Inspired

Sid Mashburn’s impact on menswear can’t go understated.  He has had a huge hand is making it cool for all men to dress well.  I’ve been to his place quite a few times, and have enjoyed every minute of it.  Not just what’s on display, but the attitude of the place – all the guys that work there are top notch.  Everyone – including Sid – is more interested in having a conversation with you rather than trying to push merchandise.

I saw this a couple years ago – it is from ‘The Get’ from the New York Times:

For those of you that haven’t had the pleasure of visiting the store, this is a great representation – not only of the shoes and clothing, but of the attitude (Variety Playhouse, Carver’s, neon pens…).  If you can play some Neil Young in your mind, you’ll get the full picture.

The biggest point of inspiration I’ve taken from Sid Mashburn is applying my attitude to the way I dress.  Specifically – don’t take it so seriously.  Wear what you like – but remember that everything doesn’t have to be in place, combed just right, or tied (see his double monks, which are never buckled).  Second would be fit – by no means slim, but just right.  501s vs. 511s.  Lastly – be a cool guy.  It’s amazing how much you can learn from people by being genuinely interested in what they have to say.

The good news is that Sid Mashburn now has an online store (so does his wife, Ann – good stuff, ladies) so everyone can join the party…

It would be impossible to agree more strongly. Mashburn’s is a bang-up place. Simply tops!
