I’ve been wearing a brass oyster buckle from Narragansett for quite some time. They actually don’t offer the buckle anymore, which is a shame. My friends at Redfish Brand have quite a nice selection of May River oyster shell buckles, and I wanted to get something a little nicer. I do appreciate the casual feel of the brass, but I work in a dressy environment, so I needed to up my game a little bit. I decided on the Vintage Silver Brass option:
I really like the polished look. It really dresses up the look. The buckle is substantial, and unique. It’s a little bigger than my brass option, but isn’t so big that it looks like I won it at a rodeo. I’ve worn it with shorts and loafers and the size is fine.
I really like this buckle. It’s a dressy version of a casual look. I can see this being in the rotation for quite some time.
I think I’d like this better on a non-stitched bridle leather strap. The polished finish of the buckle is a little much for this kind of casual accessory, but the quality looks great. Take a look at Peter Senesac’s http://www.jewelryartstudio.com for some very fine cast buckles in bronze, silver, and brass. I have the arrowhead in bronze and it is so much nicer than cast brass. Great patina.
