Super Bowl Thoughts

Admittedly, I’m not an NFL guy.  But I am a sports guy, so of course I’m going to watch the Super Bowl.  I haven’t played fantasy football in a few years, nor do I gamble on the games/players/etc.  Pair that with living in Atlanta, where our NFL team is an absolute dumpster fire (and has been since their Super Bowl loss to the Patriots), and there isn’t any incentive to pay attention.

So…our Super Bowl Sunday is like most people’s – we have some friends and neighbors over, get some wings and finger foods, let the kids run wild, drink a little too much, and have the game on in the background.  Check.  Here are my thoughts after watching the game:

  • The production value of of the broadcast is really good.  I didn’t know a lot of the players, but they did show where they went to college, number of years in the league, playoff stats, etc. after almost every play, which was nice.
  • There weren’t a lot of crowd shots – trying to incorporate the celebrity aspect to the game.  I guess they learned their lesson from the Taylor Swift firehose a couple of years ago.
  • Seattle is a very good football team.  Their offense is effecient and diciplined, and their defense is incredible.  They had the perfect game plan vs. the Patriots, which was to bring the house on almost every play, since the Patriots’ offensive line played like absolute garbage.
  • Props to the Seattle RB Walker – he’s a stud, in an old school RB sort of way.  He runs north and south, isn’t afraid to hit or get hit, and was humble about it in the post-game interview.  I’m a fan.
  • I’m not sure what happened to the Patriots.  They were completely outplayed.  I blame most of it on the OL, who couldn’t establish ANY sort of protection for Drake Maye, nor open any holes that would have provided for a balanced offensive attack.  Seattle ate them up all game.
  • I’m curious to see what happens in New England after this game.  If Kraft is anything, he’s loyal, but he’ll expect improvements.  My guess is they bring in some serious OL and DL meat in the offseason and in the draft.  Drake is a good QB, but just like any QB, he needs time in the pocket.
  • When doomscrolling, I noticed more passion about the halftime shows vs. the game.  Weird.
  • ‘Cowboy Caviar’ or ‘Thomasville Caviar’ might be the perfect dip.  Mrs. RCS made hers for the game, and we were scraping the bowl.

Now we hit the sports dead zone, where we wait for March Madness and MLB.  There are a couple of good golf tournaments between now and then, but I’d recommend picking up a good book.  There won’t be much going on for a bit, folks.

Went to a friend’s house too, similar to yours in that the kids played around and ate too much sugar lol. Had a friend there that is a Seahawks fan and the host is a Patriots fan, so that makes it a little more interesting as a neutral viewer. Halftime show was entertaining enough. Halftime shows, olympic opening ceremonies, etc. all of those events people love to come out and criticize like it’s an Oscar movie or something. I simply just think ‘was I entertained?’ and usually for the 10ish minutes, I am.

While you’re not a NFL fan, I’d like some occasional commentary from you RCS on NFL unis. Seahawks seem to be one of the most hates uniforms in the NFL.
