Weekend Wear

Summer has literally kicked my ass.  With two active boys and a healthy social calendar, I’m tired.

Our weekend days usually start around 6-6:30 when I get up with the kids, get them a breakfast snack, and hang out in the playroom.  I’m usually able to sneak into my office or the den for a cup of coffee, but it’s not long before I’m hanging with the boys doing ‘inside things’ until about 8.

Then we head outside.  Dirt bikes, playgrounds, tennis courts, backyards, golf clubs, soccer balls, etc.  The pool opens at 10:30, and we’re there by 10:15.  Maybe a nap mid-day, followed by more pool or a play date with friends and their kids.

Grills get fired up, beers get cracked, and the Braves are on TV (or even better: radio).  Kids to be way past their bedtime and a nightcap.

It’s important to be ready for anything, and dressing the part is paramount.  Here is how I survive weekends in the Summer:

A Performance Hat:  I have so many, and they are great this time of year.  By the end of summer, they are full of sweat, chlorine, mustard stains, and nicks and bruises.
Tilley Airflow Hat:  I found myself reaching for my Tilley quite a bit this summer.  Like most things, they get better with age.
Tour Visor:  No need to hammer this point home.  Tour visors are my thing (Still have a few RCS options left!!)

White Performance Polo:  I wear white polos quite a bit.  They are extremely utilitarian and go with just about everything.  My preference is the H&B MacDonalds, but I have a slew of them on the ready.
Duck Camp Rockport Hoodie:  My opinion: the best tech hoodie on the market; Duck Camp truly knocked it out of the park with this one.  It’s NOT bamboo, so it can get wet and you aren’t weighed down all day.
Grateful Dead T-shirt:  Yep.  I have quite a few.  And they all get worn.

Patagonia 5″ Stand Up Shorts:  Yep.  Still in the rotation.  I actually have a few pairs of 7″ Stand Ups that I’m planning to hem this Fall (goal project).
Boast Match Shorts:  I have a good collection of 4-5″ inseam tech shorts (Baggies, Duck Camp Scouts, etc.), and these Boast shorts are right there with them.
Marshwear Prime Shorts:  The coolest tech shorts on the market.  The slicker cousin to the vintage Primes, Marshwear did us right with these.

New Balance 993s: Indestructible.
Rainbow Sandals:  Ole Faithful.
Dingman Drivers:  Classy casual.

What did I miss?

Not style but something absolutely crucial to survive summer as comfortably as possible: body powder or powder spray.

The tech/baggy like shorts have become a bigger player for me this summer. I will wear the t-shirt sometimes, but if it’s hot, for me there is nothing more comfortable or cooler than a tech golf polo. I’ve been a longtime reef flip flop supporter, but decided to give Olukai a try since they seem to be a more popular choice these days. Not bad, but still like the reefs better tbh.

Thanks for the tip on those Boast shorts! I wasn’t aware of those, but will own some soon.

Chacos for sure. Great for fishing or worn alongside a baggies/t-shirt combo casually out and about.
