What a day of college football. It feels like every Saturday has some serious headlines that are monumental for the season…until next week. So many storylines,
Texas, Clemson, and Penn State…I’ll get to each of them, but wow – 60% of your pre-season top five…basically on the outside looking in.
- I’d argue that we’ve reached the point where we can ALL agree that Penn State sucks. They have for years. They lose a lot more than they win, which tells me that the wins are more of an anomaly vs. the losses. ESPN needs them to be good for a ‘national’ presence, but they just aren’t.
- Props to the Tide. The first half looked like Vandy might take it from Alabama, which would have caused a seismic shift in central Alabama. But the Crimson Tide righted the ship in the second half and took care of business. I expect them to play well for the next few weeks. And Johnny Football…wearing a Vandy jersey. What a rube.
- Texas is sad. The pre-season Super Bowl champions and the Heisman winner look lost.
- Clemson got the win…but did anyone notice?
- Beck looks great in Miami. Honestly, I’m happy for the dude. UGA was clearly not the right place for him – he didn’t fit into the Bulldog culture, and is much better suited down in South Florida. Florida State isn’t a bad team. They are a year or two away.
- UNC has a major problem on its hands. Their football team isn’t good, but their stands are empty. That says no revenue for the football team.
- Georgia looked good across the board, but given their talent level, they should look good. The Bulldog’s backup QB looked very strong – he can sling it. And props to the Kentucky QB – he’s a player. I like his fire. Stoops has a good one there…build the program around him.
- Did Ohio State play?
Yesterday’s picks: 6-0(!) (17–9 on the season).
I’d love to hear your thoughts…
Same could be said about Georgia. Did they play?

Yes – Georgia played. I covered their game in the second-to-last bullet above.
Speaking for myself here, I don’t think most UNC alumni care if they have a great football team, as long as the basketball team are annual contenders. However this Bellicheck experiment has been an embarrassment. Would love to see ACC double-down on their strong suit- men’s basketball.
Couldn’t tell if Florida is really that good or if Texas is just that bad, seems like both teams have consistency problems? Florida playing A&M will either be an A&M blowout or the Gators wining by 2.
Heading down to the Plains for Georgia/Auburn, should be a good one!
Believe Penn state made it farther than UGA in CFP last year
Texas needs to bench Arch. Doubt they will, especially with RRS next but he looks so lost. They don’t see this in practice?
