On Saturday, I put on a pair of socks for a round of golf. Other than that, I can’t remember the last time I wore any.
Maybe when I was fly fishing? Big Smartwool over-the-calf… But dress socks? Nope. We are neck deep into summer, and it’s hot. Really hot. Rarely is it ever sock weather, but now it’s REALLY not time for socks. Enjoy loafer season. More specifically – sans socks season.
Being a big loafer aficionado, I like what I like. My style is sleek, but not too Euro. I don’t like a big toe box, nor a chunky sole. I like good leather – I lean towards suede as much as I can – and texture. This Summer I’ve pushed the boundaries a bit…here’s what I’m wearing:

1. Rancourt Weltline Penny Loafers: Probably the most American loafers in this rundown. They are some of the most classic shoes you’ll ever own. They work with a sport coat or with shorts. A must-have for your closet.
2. Alden Milkshake Suede Tassel Loafers: I got a pair of these from Miller Brothers a few years ago, and wear them a lot more than I thought. The milkshake suede is so cool, and looks good with almost everything.
3. Officine Creative Opera Flexi Penny Loafers: I love the worn leather look…like you wore them to the beach…and left them overnight. Cool with grey jeans and a white shirt. Sharkskin belt…
4. Santoni Carlo Beige Suede Loafers: A penny version of the Alden Tassels. A bit lighter, but just as cool.
5. Scarosso Michael Driving Loafers: I’m sort of over Tod’s, as the quality has become suspect over the past few years. However, their profile is tough to beat. Scarosso gets it…
6. Todd Snyder x Jacques Soloviere Raffia Anorio Loafers: A bit of a stretch, but these look really cool when paired with the right outfit. Think tailored chino-linen pants, a Navy linen shirt, and a good leather belt.
7. Del Toro Antelope Textured Suede Milano Loafers: Again – a little outside the box, but the textured suede is so cool. I’d do these with shorts and a good (cotton) polo. Probably somewhere close to a body of water.
8. Martin Dingman Monte Carlo Driving Loafers: Martin has a deep catalog of drivers, and his Monte Carlos are the top of the heap.
9. Peter Millar Madison Penny Loafers: A comfortable pair of work loafers, mainly because of the rubber soles (vs. leather). These will need to be polished a little more frequently, but they look great.
