I recently came across this beauty at a second-hand store:
Anyone who knows anything knows that vintage Norman Hilton is not something you pass up. 3/2 sack, heavy-duty weave, great color, and it fits like a glove. Winner, winner, chicken dinner, right?
Upon further inspection, we’ve got a problem – the right elbow has worn through:
No way I’m going to let something like that deter me. I found these suede patches for $11 shipped, and had my tailor sew them on.
…and after a cleaning, here we are:
I couldn’t be happier. This is a great jacket with tons of life left, and the cut is exactly what I want – trim, but still a sack jacket, high armholes, and soft shoulders. All for about $20.
That’s a great coat. Nice save on the elbows. I wish I could find a Norman Hilton, but I’ll keep on looking. I’m taking it that Muse’s is no longer operating. Too bad, I remember it being a nice store.
Well done! Original owner kicking self?
Well done!
I shopped at Muse’s quite often in the ’80s. They handled Hickey Freeman, also. I don’t get downtown much anymore, but I believe the sign is still visible and that the top floors of the Muse’s building have been converted to loft apartments.
Major score!
I’m taking you shopping with me next time! What a find!
Jealously is not harsh enough of a term! Great thrifting on your part!
Stud. Great fix.
Such a great find. Those Norman Hiltons are amazing; wish I would happen across one in my size
Great jacket. You are right. I could not have passed on that jacket, but I would not have been as creative with a solution as you. Well done.
