Back to Life: Ping BeCU Irons

Through a few different channels, I put together a set of Ping Eye2 BeCU irons. 2-W.  I love ’em.  However, they didn’t come put together.  The middle 80% of the set came from my man @putterho, and the rest were pieced together by friends or Ebay.

My brother offered to complete the build, adding Nippon Tour 105 shafts and Golf Pride Z-Cord grips.  He does the Lord’s work, and I couldn’t be happier with the set.  They are seriously fun to hit.  It’s a different feel, and maybe 8-15 yards shorter vs. my T100s irons, but the feel is like nothing else.

No idea what the future holds for these, but it’s fun to have them in the spare bag.  I love the look.  I love the patina.  It’s all good.  Here are some images of the process:

I don’t think I’ve hit a 2 iron in about 15 years, but if I had to hit one today, Ping Eye 2 would be serious contender. Maybe not as forgiving as my Mizunos, but the feel is unmatched. Nice set.

Great classic set! These are keepers.
…Remember the lofts on these old Eye2s are much less than current clubs (2 iron is closer to todays 3 iron…)so you may want to club up one based on the usual yardage of your Titleist set.

My everyday irons are also Ping BeCu, but a bit newer. I play ISI irons, 3-9 plus 3 wedges. They play great and I have no reason to “upgrade” them!

Have played a set of ping isi becu irons for the last 20 years. Would not trade them for anything . Love the soft feel and everyone comments on how nice they look.

I have my original set of BE CU (2-L) in mint condition. I used to play them and they were great clubs. I’ve always wondered what they be worth? If interested, let me know

That 2 iron is effectively like today’s 4 iron in terms of loft.

I have 3 sets of BeCU. Each set serialized number.
    Can reshaft be graphite regular?
Orange dots and black dots for fitting.
Why the difference in yardage loss? Stiff shaft?
    Kick point?

What did you oil them with after you sandblasted the heads? I just got the same set!

I have a full set 1-SW. Is anyone interested in buying them?

Bar Keepers friend…. I’m not sure where you can purchase it, I think you can get it at Walmart it’s undoubtedly the easiest thing I’ve ever found to clean these irons.
It will make them look brand new…much better than soaking them in Coke…
Just a tip someone gave me and it works…
Put a little on a club, add a little water to make a paste then rub it in… Crazy good…

I’ve been playing BeCu Ping irons for 35 years since I bought them brand new! I’ve had to replace wedges over the years via eBay. I have the original shafts except 9 iron broke. I’ve been a single digit handicap most of my life, currently a 6. Looking forward to many more years!!
