With all the chaos around Land Rover models (Defender done, LR4 done, *new* Discovery), these images are a stark reminder of the Land Rover function. I remember seeing these in Camel Trophy competitions on an obscure Outdoor Channel/ESPN show, and though they were great. While I don’t know much about the trophy, I know that Land Rover was the provider of these vehicles for quite some time.
Today, one these would be completely impractical for me, which is exactly why I want one. Very ‘Romancing the Stone’ here in the ‘burbs. #HJS to daycare, commute to the office, stop and grab something at Publix, and then home…exactly what these bad boys were built for. Enjoy:

There are plenty of great videos of the CT from the Range Rover and 110 days thru the Discovery era worth checking out on YouTube. It was a hell of an adventure we won’t see the likes of again.
The incorrect wheels fitted in a few of those examples kill me but not nearly as bad as the feeble attempts I’ve seen to create a ‘replica’ CT Disco.
They’re fairly comfortable. Just good luck finding one that doesn’t have a check engine light on
The CT was a great event and there are several websites that are dedicated to chronicling the history of the event. It’s a shame it ended and the last couple of years were pretty bad, but it had a great run. One of the points from the perspective of LR was to show what you could do with an “almost” stock vehicle. They listed the mods that were done, but the mods were pretty easy for any 4×4 enthusiast to handle at home. The competition to make the team what intense and YouTube has some videos of the competition and outlines the application process. Thankfully this was archived.
I forgot to add that eBay occasionally has some great old CT items.
The CT really went off the rails when they made a switch to possibly the worst Rover ever produced, the Freelander. While I like the TREK/G4 Challenge Discos, LR3’s and RR’s these events never compared to the CT.
It really is sad that there isn’t one Land Rover left that is “rugged.” At least Jeep is still putting out the Wranglers. The Discovery/LR3, still had some ruggedness to it, but now it looks as sissy as the rest of the lineup.
