RCS Gift Guide #3: Charleston, SC

Charleston is and has been one of my favorite cities for a LONG time.  And in those 20 or so years, I’ve seen it change in a lot of ways – both up and out.  Locals don’t like us big city folks coming to visit, but largely I think they dislike the traffic vs. the respectful visitors.

Regardless of your tourist position, Charleston is the beacon for southern ‘Cool’.  They’ve got it all: food, shopping, downtown with a personality, the outskirts with their own personality, hunting, fishing…and some GREAT people.  So here is a gift guide for the cool Southern guy:

From top left:

1. Brit & Blue Jacket:  The coolest, under-the-radar jacket on the market.  I have one, and it’s the perfect blend of #lodgewear and Sunday Service.  Goes with everything, and is made by some mighty fine people.
2. Winkler Knives Huntsman:  Probably the nicest hunting knife on the market.  You’ll never need to settle or upgrade again.
3. Onward Reserve Fox Woven Tie:  Don’t sleep on woven ties.  They are a little bit Ivy, a little bit preppy, and NOT cartoony.  A mature way to show off a little personality.
4. Stetson Zig Zag Straw Hat:  The perfect fishing or late-season quail hunting hat.  Block those rays, folks.
5. Champion Reverse Weave Sweatshirt:  The best sweatshirts ever made are these Champion Reverse Weave jobs with the arch design.  They are hard to find new, so get a vintage one in good shape on Etsy or Ebay.  Give it a wash and let it ride.
6. Krewe Scout Sunglasses:  Some Nola-based shades.
7. Marshwear Layover Fleece Pants:  Joggers seem to be all the rage these days, so why not add some camo to the mix?  Good for lounging or under waders…just what the doctor ordered.
8. Orvis Adventure Tote:  There’s always room for another tote.  Always.
9. Tory Leather Shot Shell Belt:  The quintessential ‘Southern’ belt.  There’s a good possibility that he already has one, but the condition might be questionable.  A very safe gift for any dude.
10. J. McLaughlin Duster Shirt Jacket:  Part work coat, part sport coat.  It’s a lighter-weight outer layer that works with boots or bit loafers.
11. Tecovas Weston Boots:  For the guy that has a pair of cowboy boots, but needs to add something exotic.
12. Tom Beckbe Quilted Jacket:  A perfect everyday jacket.  There isn’t much this can’t do.  Not to mention it’s not the Barbour option that is pretty boxy.  This one fits, and the color choices are fantastic.
13. J. Earl & Sons Bar Bag: How every picnic should be carried.

What did I miss?
