2017 RCS Polo Rundown

In an effort to pare down some space in my closet, I’ve given my polos a pretty hard look.  At this point in life, I have basically replaced almost all t-shirt situation with polos.  With that said, I don’t have nearly as many polos as I do button ups.  What I’m getting at is that I’m pretty specific in the polos that I like.

With the 2017 Polo Rundown, I want to cover to whole spectrum.  The polos that are made to have BBQ stains, all the way to a polo that is (almost) made to wear under a sport coat.  Take a look; we’ve got every situation covered:

From top left:

1. Orvis Signature Polo: Let’s call this a ‘fun’ polo.  Untucked with shorts, tall boys, fetch, etc.  Pique polos will always be a big part of the spectrum, and Orvis makes a really good one at a great price point.
2. Holderness & Bourne Sankaty Polo Shirt:  You won’t find a better polo for the course.  The spread collar gives the shirt a very slick look, and the fabric makes it very playable during the hot, humid summer months.
3. Criquet Striped Jersey Polo:  Criquet is bringing the heat with their new club polos.  The jersey fabric is super soft and comfortable, and the solid, traditional collar keeps it office friendly, until 5PM, when it’s ready to rock at happy hour.
4. Onward Reserve Pima Cotton Polo:  A great example of a simple logo.  The tonal action works well, without parading around a big flashing logo.
5. Brooks Brother Pink Polo:  A classic.  No one does a pink polo like Brooks Brothers, and a pink polo is a must for guys here in the South.  Lacoste’s pink polo runs a close second
6. Polo Ralph Lauren White Polo:  Another classic.  No closet should be without a white Polo.
7. Ball and Buck Hunters Polo:  A super cool logo.  Don’t sleep on shooting gear in the warm months.  There’s always time to bust some clays, no matter the temperature.
8. Maison Kitsune Fox Polo:  Let’s call this the ‘fun’ logo polo.  A fox?  Yep.  No diggity.  No doubt.  Bag it up.

Great list. I think B Draddy certainly deserves a nod. Nephew of Izod founder and his gear is beginning to show up in golf shops such as Peachtree, Capital City, et al,which is all the street cred you need.

Great list! Only addition I’d make is the Ralph Lauren Polo off the Goodwill rack. I pick them up cheap and run them hard.

Oh yeah – I’ve got a stack of beaters from Goodwill that I wear all the time.  For $5 a pop, they are almost disposable.

Lacoste gets an honorable mention? That places this list near suspect, but in the world of personal preferences well done. Sounds like I need to check out Holderness & Bourne.

Lacoste gets an honorable mention mainly because they are cut short.  If they were 3″ longer, they’d have a prime spot on the list.  Yes -check out H&B.

What?!?! No Johnnie-O?? The discussion of polos these days starts and ends with them.

There seems to be religion (or brand reps) around Johnnie-O…

Orvis’ polo is cut like a trash bag.

I got one last weekend, and it was a little better…I believe they updated the fit.  Don’t quote me, but it seemed that way to me.

I’ll check them out again.  It has been a few years.  I love the look and price point of most of their clothes, but they never fit me right.  I’m 5’10, 195 and was swimming in their mediums.  And they don’t make a small.  The only clothes I’ve gotten there in the last 5 years have been for my 70-year-old father.

Echoing the comments of PLF3, I picked up a B Draddy at the Wells Fargo Championship and it is one of the softest polos I have ever worn,

Wearing a B Draddy today from Chicago Golf Club, along with @hbgolfusa clearly best in the market
