November Date Night

Along with November’s arrival comes a few things: much earlier sunsets, chilly nights, and anticipation of ‘the holidays’.  I’m seeing Christmas decorations going up now and it confuses me.  Whatever.  Mrs. RCS and I love date nights in the late Fall and Winter.  Since it gets dark earlier, the dates feel more formal…like we are out past bedtime.

So: let’s dress it up a little.  Opt for the sport coat and wool trousers.  Go for the darker dress shirt.  Bring out the good watch (which you should be wearing anyway!).  Here’s what I’m thinking:

From Top Left:

1. J. Press USA-made Prince of Wales Sport Coat:  Every man should have a Prince of Wales sport coat in either black and white or brown and tan.  Probably the best #2 jacket in your closet.  It can be dressed up or down, and will NEVER go out of style.  Plenty of good options out there like this one from J. Press, and there are also some steals on EBay.  Just check the measurements…
2. Rolex Daytona:  When you have to bring out the big guns…do it right.
3. Peter Millar Collection Brixen Italian Flannel Shirt:  I really like the darker, solid dress shirt under a lighter jacket-look.  I’ve seen it more and more, and done it a few times myself.  This well-cut collection dress shirt from Millar Collection is just what the doctor ordered.
4. Ralph Lauren Slim Fit Wool Trousers:  Don’t have a pair of tan wool trousers?  Here’s your reason…. Get these tailored with a 1.75” cuff to an *almost* no break.  You’ll wear them a lot more than you think you will.
5. Martin Dingman Harrison O-Ring Italian Suede Belt:  Add some spice…love the O-Ring.
6. Ferragamo Stefano Suede Penny Loafers:  There is absolutely a place for a pair of rubber-soled suede loafers.  Now is the time.
7. Van Morrison’s ‘Moondance’:  To set the mood…

How do you like to do it this time of year?
